Creating a paper cut is in essence building and welding a set of images to create an overall finished image, or in our case a paper cut.

It’s great to have an idea of at least a theme before you start. I then drag all the images in that give me inspiration and the picture starts to build quite easily. The key is every image has to some how be joined. If an image is not joined in some way it will not be connected once cut.

Tips To Successfully Build A Balloon Nursery Paper Cut.

Getting the right balance is all about building the paper cut and consistency. Also checking at intervals to ensure your cut looks good and balanced.

If you want a frame for your balloon paper cut?

  1. Choose 2 squares in design space, make one slightly smaller that the other and slice the middle square out of the big square.
  2. Now unlock the sliced result and reshape to 10×8 on your cutting mat.
  3. You can resize the whole thing when its done but you now have a shape that will also fit in a frame.

Get an idea of the theme you want to create, I searched for balloon, clouds, houses, sunshine, flags/banners and houses in the image search on the left hard side.

If you have design space access you can now go thorough selecting any images you feel will look great. Or fit the theme, and drag extra in, you can always delete them. Alternatively if you don’t have design space access refine you search to free images. There is a good selection of free images too.

Decide on the key image and start with that, you can now add image by image and weld as you go along. If you weld an image and are not sure, immediately press undo and re evaluate.

Building up a Paper cut

The key focus for this paper cut was the balloon, everything else sort of evolved around that. Once I had connected the rainbow everything else flowed.

Choose a colour you are happy working in and keep to that colour, I find black works for paper cuts.

Cutting Your Nursery Balloon SVG Free Paper Cut

When you send the project to the Cricut to cut ensure you use a brayer to roll the paper, vinyl or card to the mat. This will keep the card stock secure during cutting.

Set your material and cut pressure correctly to match the material you are cutting, I always send to set my pressure on more for a cleaner cut. I also love the the card stock for intricate cut setting.

Once the cut has finished, gently peel away and discard the outer area of the card this pulls away easily. However pay attention to the flags as they are delicate.

Now lift a corner with tweezers, the paper cut will slowly lift away in one piece. Use the weeding tool to remove any areas that need gently weeding and removing.

  1. I love this – thank you so much! I used it to make a card for my daughter’s birthday using the contour tool to cut “fillers” from other colours as background
