I have never been a huge fan of Sugar Skulls, why? I have no idea, the more I have looked at them lately, the more intrigued I have become. There is something beautiful about them, even though they are intended to represent the dead. In fact honour a departed soul, which is quite beautiful in its own way. Thus I have created this super pretty Sugar Skull SVG Free Layered File for you to download and create your own Halloween inspired projects.
These files are part of a 6 layer file that actually started life as a single layer. However I just knew when I finished it, it would look great as a multi layered project. So whilst you have 6 layers to play with here, the top 2 layers can also be used independently to create custom Halloween decorations and gifts.

Cutting Your Sugar Skull SVG
When you send your Free Skull SVG/PNG files to your Cricut to cut, ensure you use your brayer to roll the paper, vinyl or card to adhere to the mat. Movement will affect the cut.
Line up all the layers in design space, to confirm all files line up correctly. Remember you are using 6 colours so have the card stock ready to hand and really think about the colours. I chose glitter card stock for the back layer and glitter card for the top layer, popping a bright green in as layer 2, to add a contrast and love the results.
If your cutting mat looses its stickiness this will affect the quality of cut. Also make sure your mat is in good condition, this is vital for cutting intricate cuts.
Additionally, set the material and cut pressure correctly to match whatever materials you’re cutting to guarantee a clean cut. If you have any problems cutting check the mat, pressure and material settings as generally this is where the problem will lie.
How To Build Your Sugar Skull
I have suggested an order on the files which makes sense and the layers are numbered accordingly.
Start by placing the back Sugar Skull mandala SVG layer face up, and sticking foam pads to the back of your layer 2.
Now flip the layer over and position onto the back layer, making sure it lines up.
Keep going layer by layer until you’ve finished.

Thank you, I love this sugar skull! When I uploaded to Cricut DS, 2 of the skull pieces were much smaller than the rest. Should I resize them the exact size as the others?
Hi Liz, yes they need to all be the same size but it’s easy to do just drag them on the bottom corner, sometimes this happens with files.
