We are teetering on the edge of autumn with this weather, and this is when I start craving home-cooked comfort food. You can just put one of those meals in a slow cooker and leave it bubbling away. Thus making the house smell glorious with the promise of a wonderful flavoursome meal at the end of the day. And this super easy Slow Cooker Dumpling Recipe With Suet is perfect for adding to the pot to comfort food.

In fact, until recently, I had yet to learn how easy dumplings were to make. And also how they can add a whole new flavor element to any slow cooker meal.

What Are Dumplings?

Dumplings are little balls of dough made with beef suet, flour and parsley. Sounds gross, right? But mix these ingredients, and some magic occurs. Cook them in the slow cooker with a stew, and they are transformed into doughy parcels of deliciousness, culminating in a comfort food dream.

Can You Get Vegetarian Suet?

Yes, you can also buy vegetable suet if you prefer the vegetarian variety or are cooking a vegetable stew. Vegetable suet is white fat made from refined vegetable oil.

Can You Freeze Dumplings?

Yes, they are better if you freeze the dough before cooking. Mixing up a batch and popping some in the freezer in an airtight container in meal-size portions is great. These are great for pulling out the freezer on those busy days you know you will need more time to cook.

Nothing is worse than coming home after a busy day and thinking of what to cook. Thus having hatched out a plan before you leave the house for the day, thanks to a bit of clever batch cooking, gives you time for all the other things. Tea time invariably brings a busy household.
