We are teetering on the edge of autumn and it’s around this time of year that I start craving home cooked comfort food. One of those meals that you can just put in a slow cooker and leave it bubbling away. Thus making the house smell glorious with the promise of a wonderful flavoursome meal at the end of the day. And this super easy Slow Cooker Dumpling Recipe With Suet is just perfect to add to comfort food.
In fact until recently I had no idea how easy dumplings were to make? And also how they can add a whole new element to any slow cooker meal.
What Are Dumplings?
Dumplings are little balls of dough made with beef suet, flour and parsley. Sounds gross right? But actually mix these ingredients together and some sort of magic occurs. Cook them in the slow cooker with a stew and they are transformed into doughy parcels of deliciousness, culminating in a comfort food dream.
Can You Get Vegetarian Suet?
Yes you can also buy vegetable suet if you would prefer the vegetarian variety or are cooking a vegetable stew. Vegetable suet is white fat made from refined vegetable oil.
Can You Freeze Dumplings?
Yes, they are better if you freeze the dough before cooking. It’s a great idea to mix up a batch and pop some on the freezer in meal size portions. These are great for pulling out the freezer on those busy days you know you won’t have time to cook.
There’s nothing worse than coming home after a busy day and having to think of what to cook. Thus having hatched out a plan before you leave the house for the day, thanks to a bit of clever batch cooking gives you time for all the other things tea time invariably brings a busy household.
