I am a huge fan of pulled pork, it’s one of those meals that is great for summer bbq’s, winter Christmas markets and parties. There is never a bad time for pulled pork. I have previously shared my delicious BBQ Pulled Pork Recipe, which is a firm family favourite, I wanted to share my new favourite Easy Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Recipe.

This is a less saucy dish is cooked with spices and delicious served with lashings of home made apple sauce and stuffing for a hearty delicious meal.

How To Make Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

It’s one of those recipes you can prepare ahead if you are having a get together. Planning a gathering can be a stressful affair, thus having a crock pot meal you can throw into a slow cooker and leave cooking away whilst you concentrate on other things is perfect.

The beauty of this pulled pork recipe is that it requires little effort and attention. When it’s cooked, you shred it in the pot, and it’s ready to serve. That is entertaining food at its very best.

However its also the best weekend family meal. Allowing you to enjoy family time knowing your slow cooker dinner is cooking away happily, thus needing to spend less time in the kitchen.

Ingredients For Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

  • 1 kg Pork Shoulder
  • 50 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 150 ml water
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
  • 2 Onions
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper

How To Make Slow Cooker Pulled Pork?

Chop the onions and prepare the spices in a bowl

  1. Chop the onions and place in the bottom of the slow cooker adding the water and vinegar.
  2. Trim all visible fat off the pork and discard it.
  3. Now mix the golden syrup, spices, garlic, salt and pepper together in a bowl.
  4. Roll the pork into the spicy syrup mixture.
  5. Place in the slow cooker on top on the onions and set the slow cooker to high, leaving for 8 hours, turning every 2 hours or so.
  6. When your pork is cooked shred with a fork and served from the crock pot.
  7. Serve with apple sauce and stuffing.

Do You Have To Brown The Pork Before Slow Cooking?

Rub the pork in all the spices and golden syrup and then add to the slow cooker and place the lid on

No, I never brown the pork. This is a time-saving family recipe, so just pop it in the slow cooker and let it do its magic.

Is Pulled Pork Better In The Oven Or Slow Cooker?

In my opinion its the slow cooker every time, the meat is tender and just fall apart. Plus cooking slowly in all of these delicious spices infuses that divine smoky flavour into the meat.

Can You Freeze Slow Cooker Pulled Pork?

Yes, I have frozen pulled pork many times. I cook the recipe in large batches and freeze it in meal-size portions once it’s cooled. However, remember to thoroughly defrost it before reheating. It can also be kept in the fridge for 48 hours.

When I think of pulled pork I always image it served with a brown roll with apple sauce and stuffing. However there are many ways to also serve pulled pork with or without bread.

  • Tacos of fajitas and pickled red cabbage
  • Or mashed potatoes and vegetables
  • On pizza
  • Pulled pork is delicious on a jacket potato
  • Or as a side to a hearty salad.

An easy and delicious slow cooker pulled pork recipe. This is a low in fat family friendly recipe that is great for cooking for parties or batch cooking.
