Last week I headed down to London to visit the German Travel Market.
Sometimes living in the North of England can be such a pain. I often miss out on events because of train fares, and train times. However after my recent trip to Stuttgart this was not something I was willing to miss out on.
Stuttgart was my first visit to Germany, and I very quickly realised there is so much more to see in the wonderful picturesque country. Yet it was somewhere that had never been on my radar before. I love it when a whole new window of travel opportunities opens up to you. The excitement of discovering new and exciting places to visit as a family, and as a couple. Did you know Lake Constance it is surrounded by 4 different countries?
Over a delicious breakfast we discussed what Germany has to offer couples, adventurers and families. I already had a little itinerary for a family trip bubbling away in my mind. However as the morning went on the itinerary grew and became more exciting by the minute. Before I knew it I had formulated an exciting little road trip, with space for adventure, theme parks and relaxation in the sun. All very exciting, and also not so far away that traveling would be a huge drama.
After a very entertaining speech from Stanley Johnson and a delicious lunch, of which I may have eaten a little too much my good friend Donna and I head out into snowy cold London. You see the best way to justify the expense of trip such as this is to combine it with a little sight seeing.
I never tire of London; there is always something new and exciting to see.
And what is the point of rushing home, when the journey is so long. No, I would much rather grab my camera, take some photos and find something exiting to do. Trips to London are not to be wasted. I wrapped up in a slouchy warm sweater, chunky scarf and blazer ready to see some of the sights of London.
Ater a planning meeting in a traditional London pub over a glass of wine we headed to South Kensington and the V&A Museum to see the Pop Culture Exhibition, I shared my thoughts on it here. It blew my mind; this is no prissy pretty exhibition, its meaty and dark in places. And has you pondering over it long after you have left.
We rounded up our day eating tapas in Covent Garden, and oddly enough discussing football with a lovely couple from Hull in a Covent Garden pub. Just goes to prove football is something I will never get away from!
I then found myself chatting (maybe interrogating a little oops!) with the parents at the stage door as we waited for Harry, Donna’s son, to finish his west end show rehearsals. Which I have to say it is a life that fascinates me; the commitment these parents put in so their children can follow their dreams is phenomenal! Trust me, as I watched all the happy little faces pouring out of the theatre, it is plain to see the kids love what they are doing, and they couldn’t do it if they didn’t.
After a day of taking photos and exploring not only London but also Germany we head home to chill and discuss our day.
Heaped on the sofa in PJs with a coffee and bar of dark chocolate we planned our next trip. Because surely there is always be a great reason to visit London. And I am not thinking I will run out of reasons any time soon.

Hi Sarah, visiting London could prove to be expensive if you always come away with travel ideas, but half the fun is in the planning! I do love your photos. Hope you book that trip soon.

Ha ha yes I had never thought of it like that Debbie, but so worth the expense xx
I think we need to campaign for more events up in the North, though your London adventure sounds fantastic. Love all your pictures and best way of thinking about travel is surely over a good breakfast x

It’s funny (in a black humour kind of way) — I’ve only ever been to Germany once and it was for a funeral!! I keep meaning to go to the markets at Christmas. One year we’ll sort it. We should book a girls weekend there — it would be SO fun!!! Looks like you had a fan London weekend with Donna!! Loved hanging out with you two in Birmingham!! 🙂 xx
