The term “Feng Shui” translates to “wind-water” in English and reflects the idea of finding a balance between natural elements. The practice is rooted in the belief that the arrangement of objects, such as your bed and the flow of energy in a space, can affect your health, well-being, and overall quality of life.

We are mid house renovation, having just finished our barn kitchen, which has been a job of epic proportions. If you have ever renovated a house, you will know there is no time for rest mid-project. Thus, we are now working on the lounge, another big job. Having somewhere to rest that feels calm and balanced at the end of the day is more important than ever for us. Its a space to clear the mind and relax.

The Key Principles of Feng Shui

1. Chi (Qi)

Chi is the life force or energy that flows through everything. In Feng Shui, the goal is to enhance the positive flow of chi in a space while minimizing any blockages or disruptions.

2. Yin and Yang

The concept of Yin and Yang represents the balance of opposites. Yin is associated with receptivity, passivity, and darkness, while Yang is associated with activity, brightness, and assertiveness. Feng Shui seeks to create a balance between these complementary forces.

3. The Five Elements

Feng Shui incorporates the five elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—as fundamental building blocks of the universe. Each element is associated with specific qualities and colors, and balancing these elements is crucial for a harmonious environment.

4. Bagua Map

The Bagua is a symbolic map used in Feng Shui to divide a space into different areas, each corresponding to a specific aspect of life (e.g., wealth, career, relationships). By applying the Bagua to a home or room, practitioners can identify areas that may need attention or enhancement.

5. Command Position

The placement of furniture and objects, especially the bed, desk, and stove, is essential in Feng Shui. The command position involves positioning these items so that they have a clear view of the room’s entrance.

Position your bed in the command position to have a clear view of the bedroom door. Thus allowing you to see who enters the room.
