Last night we got to get lost in a glorious evening of magical, whimsical entertainment. With the Bedknobs And Broomsticks Uk Tour, at the Palace Theatre in Manchester.

Reviewing a childhood favourite is a tricky one? There is always that fear that it won’t live up to its glorious movie predecessor and as such your expectations? However the fear is always lessoned knowing that this childhood classic is a Disney Movie. I mean come on, what do Disney ever do that’s anything less than stupendous?

You know what you are getting with Disney, glorious, feel good, thought provoking and magical on every level. Of course the Bedknobs And Broomsticks Uk Tour live up to that and I never expected anything less.

Bedknobs And Broomsticks Uk Tour Review 2021

Set in wartime London Carrie, Paul and Charlie Rawlings (Connor O’Hara) find themselves like many other children from London evacuated to the country. After a horrific explosion that see’s them lose their family and home. They consequently find themselves on a train out of London.

However, if you are going to be sent to a new home, what better that a trainee witch? Thus Miss Eglantine Price (Dianne Pilkington) finds herself the guardians of 3 cockney children, not knowing that their future holds.

The children are dismayed to find Miss Price very soon creates a magical bed, by bewitching one the the bedknobs. This gives the bed the power to transport its inhabitants to anywhere you wish to go. But before the adventures begin Miss Price has a job for the magical bed. She whisks the children off to London, in search of the other half of a spell book and the finale her magical education.

Here they meet the esteemed Emelius Brown ( Charles Brunton) in person, who is enlisted to help with the search. However like in all Disney tales this new found higgledy made family embark on an adventure so far away from war torn London than the children could have even imagined.

Is The Bedknobs And Broomsticks Uk Tour Close The Original Movie?

Disney are always able to find the most creative talented teams to use a tale of old and bring its production into a glorious modern day version. Yet also keep the bones of the story the same.

The changes are subtle and sympathetic, Neil Bartram has adding to the already genius score created by the legends who are the Sherman Brothers. This has been done in a seamless way that blends together new and old to create a stunning score.

Whilst the creative team recreated all the magic from the movie and more to make Bedknobs and Broomstick a spectacular production. One that will have a whole new audience falling in love with the Rawlings children and indeed how they built and new family with Miss Price and and Mr Brown.

The Cast Of Bedknobs And Broomsticks Is Incredible

Every voice, every scene reaches your emotions in some way, the bomb scene at the beginning creates the whole atmosphere for the movie. Whilst Portobello Road has you feeling you are right there with the cast. The voices are wonderful, its brightly coloured and pure joy. As if you are dancing on those very streets yourself.

The puppets are genius! They have you forgetting they are puppets, you totally buy into the characters. I adored the bear, the lion was majestic and the birds and fish brought a warmth and humour that had the audience in hysterics.
