Updating The Lounge, A Review Of Frith Rugs

Share

It’s that time of year when you just want to blow the cobwebs of winter away and make a few tweaks to update your home.

I have recently been talking about my spring bedroom update and making our home feel fresher. But lately I have turned my attention to a spring update in the lounge. It’s a large airy room so keeping it cozy can be a bit problematic in the spring, not because the house is cold, but because we are no longer using the wood-burning stove which just makes you feel oh so very cosy.

Now we are on the transition between winter and summer it’s just to warm to light the log burner. This means I need a cozy focus in the room. But I also need a fresh approach, sticking to my colour palette of blues and greys but with a fresh modern twist.

I started by choosing a new blue, grey rug from Frith Rugs.

My brief was a modern flat pile large floor rug with a little detail, but not a full on pattern. Something subtle that would fit in with the style of my lounge. Give it a lift but not be over powering.

Of course said large blue rug had to go through a vigorous interview process before being chosen as the correct candidate for the Christie family home.

It had to be perfect for Toby to carry out his tricks, particularly perfect for rolling!

Not deep enough that his bone would get lost in it! Thus causing nasty accidents when unsuspecting humans stand on said camouflaged bone. (This used to happen A LOT)

Be perfect for Doris (our trusty iRobot) to go about her daily hoovering chores and never get in Doris’s way!

Said rug must also be warm and comfy to walk on, read on, do homework on, put a cushion down and watch TV on and work from.

Oh and Lego building, the rug must not steal and hide bricks ever! Our last rug was a terrible Lego thief!

Aside from physical skills the new rug also needed to look great and co-ordinate with our interior. But also look cool without looking pretentious and over-confident.

After much consideration of all the potential candidates, and trust me there were a few! I went for the 9,6 x 6,6 Batik Woven Rug.

It took a few days to arrive, but when it did it was fresh and ready to lay down straight away. (I have a bit of a thing about rugs being fresh, after buying a not so fresh rug many years ago) However my Frith rug was as fresh as a daisy and looks great. It has settled in well into the Christie household and is getting on famously with Toby and Doris!

With the addition of a set of twinkling lights placed in the log burner.

Perfect for cozying up the log burner and also placing some candles on the hearth to create the illusion of warmth without creating heat.

Our lounge is feeling updated and spring ready.

Ok, ok I know we are still thinking of moving.

I am carefully choosing interior additions to ensure they will fit our new interior. But I also feel refreshing and updating our home, thus keeping it fresh and looking modern makes it much more sellable? Just because we are moving on does not mean I do not adore my little house on the hill. And keeping it fresh and feeling loved reflects that.

  1. I’ve just spent DAYS looking for the perfect rug for our living room. Good rugs that don’t break the bank are so, so hard to find. I’ve ended up having one shipped from Germany, would you believe?! I love the one you chose. The colour is so you and will work in whatever house you choose, for sure.
