Our last stop on our Burgundy adventure was at the beautiful Hotel Des Grands Chenes, in Saint Fargeau. I love how both of our accommodations were so very different, but gave as a wonderful taste of French Hospitality. Owned but the very lovely Rachel and Alain. Hotel Grands Chenes is a beautiful china blue house, set in its own beautifully manicured grounds. If I could choose the perfect French home to own, and live in, this would be it.
It has all the qualities of a quintessential French property, with the addition of football goals in the garden and so much space to run. Perfect when traveling with kids. And for those hot sunny days an outdoor pool. The outdoor space is as much of a draw as is indoor space at Hotel Des Grands Chenes it is simply beautiful.
The Hotel has a variety of rooms to suit every style and taste. And also small bungalow suites in the grounds, we stayed in the Les Mésanges suite with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. It was very comfortable, with a TV and heating, so even though the weather was on the cooler side we were nice and snug.
The beauty of Hotel Des Grands Chenes is that it is only a short drive from Saint Fargeau a perfect distance for nipping out for a meal in the evening. Had the weather been better we would have also been very tempted to grab a pizza and bottle of wine, to enjoy on the bistro set outside our room.
The gardens really are an area you would enjoy on a hot evening. It is such a tranquil location, and the fact that you can spend an afternoon chilling by the pool is perfect. It makes a trip to Saint Fargeau that little more flexible, knowing you can enjoy a sunbathing afternoon, whilst the kids cool off and splash about in the pool.
In the evening you can use the lounge area in the main house, which we did once of twice. We took a glass of wine across and chilled out chatting about our day. The boys were also able to make use of the Wi-Fi, which was stronger in the main house that in our Bungalow. I think that was more to do with the fact that all four of us were trying to connect devices as any one time.
Hotel Des Grands Chenes also offers a delicious continental breakfast. I may have eaten 1 or 2 croissants on out trip, but omg they were impossible to resist. And the French coffee, I have become a little addicted to espresso and I blame that very much on this trip. But actually, it is an addiction I am enjoying so much. This is the perfect hotel if you crave the open space, countryside and a pool is a priority to you. The rooms are stylish and the breakfast is delicious. Rachel, Alain and the Gwendolyn are such wonderful hosts. We had a wonderful stay.
This looks like such a charming place to stay. I have never stayed anywhere like this, I would love to explore France more as I have only ever been to Paris xx
I was the same Lindsey, but the difference is incredible I love village life in France x
What a beautiful hotel Sarah and certainly looks a calm and tranquil place to stay. Your stay is really making me put France on our travel list as me and the kids have never been x
Tracey we had some reservations about France before our trip, but that was because we had no idea what we were going to experience, what the real France is like. The people are beautiful and it is the most stunning country even in the rain x
