Butterflies represent summer, sunshine and peaceful moments in the park or garden. As such my Free ABC Butterfly Colouring Letters And Numbers are a great subject for home learning inspiration. They are also the perfect way to inspire little minds and help them engage in learning and of course maths and English. I have also popped a few butterfly facts in to help with home learning, as butterflies are great topic to inspire little learners.

6 Facts About Butterflies
If you are going to use my printable butterfly colouring alphabets as a learning aid, then here are a few interesting butterfly facts.
- Butterflies have four life stages, egg, caterpillar, cocoon and adult butterfly.
- Butterflies are invertebrates, this means they do not have a spine/ backbone.
- They taste with their feet, butterflies can taste when they land on flowers, but they don’t eat with their feet, only taste.
- Butterflies can see colours that humans can’t, they are able to see ultra violet light.
- They can’t fly with cold wings, they need heat to be able to fly. When you see a butterfly resting on a flower in the sun, they are warming up their wings so they can fly.
- Butterflies don’t live very long, this varies from species. However some as little a 2 weeks, some 6 weeks.
