I have been chatting about revamping the home for spring for a few weeks now.
Wishful thinking, or optimism I hear you ask? However my optimism is paying off and today I awoke in my fresh new white bedding to the sound of birds singing. And that doesn’t feel to have happened for the longest time. A huge part of being ready for spring is embracing it and preparation.
For me the end of January beginning of February are the toughest months, the sparkle of winter has long worn off. But then March arrives with a little hope that warmer sunnier days are ahead.
This is the perfect time for home updates, to banish winter and spark that feeling of love for your home all over again, ready for spring/summer.
Our home is the ultimate chameleon, the perfect winter and summer home. This makes the transition from winter to summer an exciting one. We are ready to throw open the windows and let the fresh country air in. Fill the log burner with candles and give it a rest until next winter comes around (and don’t you just love a log burner filled with twinkling candles in the summer?)
One thing that always makes me feel ready for spring is updating the bedroom with fresh new bedding. And this year feels a little momentous in many ways.
Ok and a little sad in others if I am being totally honest. You see, the boys have always camped in our bedroom at the weekends, I remember their little legs running across the hallway early Sunday morning, getting momentum all ready to dive bomb our bed and snuggle with us for an extra hour of precious sleep.
I can’t remember the exact moment it stopped. They just slept longer, and longer. Until it got to the stage that Chris and I are now up hours before that lazy pair surface. Now they hardly ever set foot in our bedroom, weeps!
But there is an upside to this, you see they were messy toddlers; white bedding was never ever an option. Not without a throw to cover as protection. However now we can have a grown up white bedding and a soft grey throw, safe in the knowledge that it will stay clean and white. There will be no tea time bundle, or indeed the risk of muddy feet or chocolate biscuits being spread all over the bedding.
I can tell those of you with younger children are rolling your eyes; just don’t let food upstairs, or even worse muddy feet. But when you have 2 children that in their former years were mud magnets, at times they are able to slip though the net. And you know what? I firmly believe you should let kids be kids.
And those of you with older children and saying embrace it; they grow up to quickly and then become absorbed in designed clothing, being cool and gaming.
After a trip to Sainsbury’s for new bedding! It may have taken me sooooo long to choose between navy blue stripes and white bedding with grey and floral accents! But hey interiors’ shopping is an art; you have to make the right decision.
If you get it right your home becomes something you feel proud of. Allowing you to enjoy each room as an individual space that you have crafted and designed to fit your taste, to suit the seasons and your moods.
And now we have a grown up bedroom with crisp white bed linen and big squishy pillows that looks just beautiful when the bed is all styled. But is also perfect for making a big bed cocoon and sneaking up stairs to light a candle, enjoy a cheeky snack and read a magazine.
You see now they are teens they bring a different type of chaos, and man boy type chaos which is full of laughter, the odd sprinkle of bickering and is always very loud. Sometimes sneaking off to read a magazine and enjoy a little peace is just too tempting.

Oh I love your choices, they look so fresh perfect for spring. There’s nothing quite like new bedding.

Ah thanks Stevie, you know that is so true I love new bedding x
Oh I love fresh bedding and ca not wait until I can buy nice white ones for our bed. I still have two little ones who invade my bed, my three-year-old son came toddling in at 4am this morning with his collection of teddy’s and water bottle. xx
Ah bless him, I miss those days but at the same time am embracing the changes that come with having older children x
Some lovely pictures of you here hun!
I’ve gotta say, I really like Sainsbury’s homeware – they always surprise me. I bought a little dresser for my makeup from there. It was less than £20 and has really stood the test of time, even with my little girl playing with it! Hope the bedding is just as good 🙂
