How We Used A Custom Local Map As Wallpaper

Share

We’re finally nearing the end of the house renovations and wow its been a tough journey. Lot’s of outside influences have caused problems or delays. We’ve had many late nights trying to get things done. However, today I want to share how we created a custom local mural map as wallpaper.

Because finally we are on the finishing touches stage. The last job is in progress and within a week the skirting boards will be complete.

Last week’s success was getting our map wallpaper mural fitted; we had planned to do this ourselves. And we could have managed as the instructions were very comprehensive. However, we took the easy route and had a decorator friend fit our local map wall mural to ensure it was perfect.

Why Did We Decide To Use A Local Map As Wallpaper?

We had been pondering on a map of the world for some time. Travel is a passion for us and always has been, however one night over dinner we got chatting about the possibility of installing a local map!

The boys came up with the idea, mainly with the intention of fitting Turf Moor on said map! Of course that was never going to happen, however I did rather like the idea of a local map.

Renovating My Kitchen Table

Having A Local Map As Wallpaper Would Hold A Wealth Of History.

We live in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Pendle Hill and the history surrounding the Pendle Witches is a huge part of the identity of the region. Also, a lot of our family history lies in Pendle, places we have lived, grown up, got married, where the boys went to school. Additionally almost anyone who visits our home has some sort of history right there on that wall.

Thus we decided a local map, where we can track ours, and indeed local history was the way forward.

How To Order And Install A Map As Wallpaper

Choose Your Design

After a few chats with the lovely people at Murals Wallpaper we decided to go for an ordnance survey map with a 4 mile radius. Now I wasn’t so sure how this would pan out, but the team at Murals Wallpaper were so patient and allowed us to tweak the central location to include all of the area’s we wanted to include.

Measure The Wall

There is a handy guide on the Murals Wallpaper site that takes you through getting the correct measurements of the wall. If your chosen map is one on the website? It will show you your finished map according to the measurements provided.

Agree Final Design And Place Order

However if you are ordering a more bespoke product such as an ordnance survey map? You will receive a design by email for final agreement.

The Map Arrives Well Protected In A Tube

Our map arrived within days, I have to say I was a little concerned about the mural becoming damaged in transit. However it came in a hard cardboard tube in one roll very well protected.

The Final Result.

The map looks incredible, when it arrived I was a tad nervous, thinking I may have made the wrong choice. Wondering if maybe I should have gone for a world map? However once the map had dried, and our furniture put back in situ it was just what we had hoped for and more. It’s such a wonderful talking point, I love how people instantly look for their house when they visit!
