Kinky Boots At The Opera House Manchester

Anything that tells me over and over again that shoes are the most beautiful thing in the world has got to be great right? And who would buy shoes when they can purchase 2 1/2 feet of irresistible tubular sex?

Kinky Boots is the most uplifting, dynamic exciting show ever.

Based on a true story, Charlie Price (Joel Harper-Jackson) and how he turned around the fortunes of his Dads beloved shoe factory, ‘Price And Sons’ by putting its fate in the hands of Lola (Callum Francis, who is heading out to perform the role on Broadway after the Manchester run) a drag queen who he encounters on a night out in London.

The show sensitively portrays how prejudice can cloud peoples lives and judgments. And how failing to be open and accept others for who they are presents so many lost opportunities in life. But also highlights no matter how confident a person is, we all have our own demons to fight.

Charlie and Lola both had similar beginnings in life but with very different middles. Both striving too find themselves and acceptance from others. When they find each other their differences seems huge. But as we learn more about these wonderful characters, they are more alike than they dare to accept.

Their friendship is the beginning of a journey or discovery for both of them, which forces others around them to see them for who they are. And forces diversity and the development of beautiful friendships.

The pace of Kinky Boots is fast and exciting

The characters are so engaging, you arrive at the interval wanting to be Lola’s best friend, and tell Charlie it will all be ok. And if I am honest feeling green with envy at Lola and the Angels bodies! I felt like I wanted to give a standing ovation at half time it was that incredible.

The score has you either wanting to jump up and dance along, or sat with your mouth wide open at the sheer beauty and skill that the big numbers are delivered with.

I didn’t want Kinky Boots to end.

When you feel you have only been watching a show for 20 minutes and are desperate for it it to go on longer. Just so you can stay in that bubble of campness and of all things red and sparkly for just a while longer. That has got to be a sure sign of a killer performance and one hell of a show?

Kinky Boots is playing at the Opera House in Manchester until the 1st December and omg if you love being entertained, intrigued and dazzled then see Kinky Boots it will deliver on every level. And don’t think I will wait till next time,  by then Callum Francis will be on broadway and you don’t want to miss his Lola. Because there are no words for his performance just WOW!

The standing ovation was immediate and lasted for the whole finale. The atmosphere was electric and if I could, I would do it all again tonight. We could all learn a lot from Lola!
