How To Make A Snow Globe Christmas Cake Topper

Share

Christmas may be different this year, but it’s still Christmas and a time to celebrate and be thankful for the little things. Its that time of year when it’s ok to eat cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you want too. So of course, to do that we need cake, thus today I am sharing How To Make A Snow Globe, Shaker, Christmas Cake Topper.

I have made my Christmas Cake Topper as a snow globe shaker, however you don’t need to. It could be a simple snow globe cake topper without the glitter and sprinkles. If you have been following my Christmas craft posts you will see that I have been busy making Elf and Nativity Alphabets and of course the obligatory 2020 Elf On The Shelf quarantine kit. All fun projects for festive decorations, however, there is nothing better than cake! It should be law to have some sort of cake at Christmas.

If You Don’t Have A Cricut Maker?

If you don’t have a Cricut Maker and thus can’t cut craft board? Try using thick card and layering it to create a void for the glitter. I would suggest a delivery box as that is quite thick, but still cuttable. If you do struggle, cut a guide and use a craft knife.

Now glue the snow flakes to the top of the snow globe to finish off

Size your christmas cake topper before sending to cut to ensure all the layers match

This will ensure all elements of the cut are sent to design space on separate mats.

Sending Your Snow Globe Project To Cut

When you click ‘Make It’ to send your project to cut design space will arrange the different colours into mats, it’s important to note which is which, to get your cuts on the correct materials.

It’s also important to change your blade to knife blade for the craft board layer and tape the board to your purple cutting mat to ensure its secure.

Be sure to slide the rollers to the right hand side of the roller bar before you load the poster board, failing to do this could could cause damage or a jam.

The knife blade sets to cut the board over many rotations, I think mine set to around 32 cuts. However please note, you may not need all the cut rotations design space recommends I stopped mine at 25 and it was adequate. I didn’t use official Cricut poster board and it did not need as many cuts. Also ensure you change the knife blade as soon as you poster board cut finishes and before you load your next mat.

You can choose to paint the chip board to match the front of the cake topper, however I decided not not

Heat up the glue gun, this time I tried something a little different than when I made my Hot Air Balloon cake topper, I cut two sheets of acetate and made a pouch for the glitter. This encapsulated the glitter fully, however it is important to allow the glue to dry fully before moving on the the next stage.

use 2 acetate circles and glue them together to encapsulate the glitter

Next glue the chip board frame to the back layer, it’s a good idea to put all the pieces together first to check the are the correct way round. Be quick with the glue gun as it dries quickly, I did mine in two halves.

Glue the cardboard frame to the card backing of the christmas cake topper and glue the glitter pouch on top

Once the glue is dry glue the glitter encapsulated perspex layer to the frame. Now glue the top layer of the Christmas Snow Globe to your shaker cake topper.

Once the glue is dry attach the top layer on the snow globe cake topper

Now add your Merry Christmas and any snowflakes to finish off the design.

Finally push the wooden dowel into the straw so it fits tightly, flatten the end of the straw and glue to the back of the snow globe shaker cake topper to secure.

Put the wooden dowel inside the straw and glue to the back
