13th July 2020 by SarahJChristie Leave a Comment

I just had to share this easy tutorial on How To Make Homemade No Sew Lavender Sachets With Cricut. Now I haven’t used lavender flowers, but the leaves and stalks from a Lavender tree I have tidied up a bit. However these also have the distinctive Lavender aroma, but not as strong.

What Are The Benefits Of Homemade Lavender Sachets?

Although this is such an easy pattern you could make it without a Cricut and simply copy the template below and cut out by hand. But like all things craft, it’s always easier with Cricut.

Which Part Of A Lavender Plant Smells?

The leaves, stems and flowers all have the lavender aroma. The leaves and stem are a slightly softer scent, but still useful for using as part of this how to make lavender sachets tutorial. Thus making a milder smelling Lavender Sachet which in turn is less overpowering. Check out these other fab uses for lavender.

Lavender Is Great For Relaxing

Lavender is perfect for relaxing, whether its putting a spot of lavender oil or spray on your pillow at night, or keeping lavender sachets by your bed or on a side table in the lounge. It’s great to have around to maintain that calm relaxed feeling.

How to make Homemade Lavender Bags To Repel Flies with Cricut

Did You Know Flies Hate Lavender?

This is my main motivation for learning now to make lavender sachets, I hate flies. Living in the country near farm land means flies. They drive me mad, however lavender is proving useful in our fight against keeping flies out of the house. We use lavender spray to spray around the doors and these handy little lavender bags hang off the back door handles to help keep pests away.

And its working! Yes we still get the odd stray fly, but the numbers are most definitely lower.

You Will Need

  • Cricut Maker with Rotary Blade
  • Pink Cricut Cutting Mat
  • Cricut Fabric, or your own 10×10″
  • Cricut Design Space Access
  • Brayer Tool
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Scissors
  • Freshly cut or dried lavender leaves, stems or flowers
  • A small handful of dried rice.
  • 12″ of ribbon, string or wool.

Step By Step How To Make Lavender Sachets

Prepare Your Lavender

Cut a good handful of lavender leaves and stems or flowers and chop them into a bowl before adding a hand-full of rice. For me this saves the time of drying out the lavender and works equally well, just ensure you have a ration of at least 1/3 lavender to 2/3 rice.

add rice to fresh lavender stalks to absorb the moisture

Also Prepare Your Fabric

Iron the fabric to ensure it is crease free. I use my easy press mini for this, although you could just use a traditional iron.

Create A Template In Cricut Design Space

In Cricut Design Space search in images for a scalloped circle. I found this shape, however the inner circle was the shape I wanted which was a blank space.

To use this space, grab a square from the left hand shape bar and pull it over the shape but so it sits inside of the outer shape and click slice, this will slice out the inner void to create the shape you want.

The scalloped image I chose was reversed, I wanted the inner shape, simple choose a square in Cricut Design Space pull it over the scalloped area and slice

Once you have your scalloped circle you now need to add perforations to weave your ribbon through.

Choose a circle from the shape bar on the left hand side of Cricut Design Space and put it in the position where you want your perforations to be for your homemade Cricut lavender sachets.

Now choose a square from the shape bar, unlock it and drag into a small oblong like the ones below.

Simple place your first oblong in place and, right click and duplicate to get your next and keep going until you have created a circle shape like the one below.

Now discard the inner circle and drag your scalloped circle out of the way. Now you are just left with the circle made of dashes. Right click and select weld in the bottom right corner of design space.

Once the dashes are all welded together drag and position over your scalloped circle, right click and select slice to slice these dashes into your shape. You will be left with a ready to cut image like the template below.

choose a square and unlock to make tiny oblongs, now space these around in a circle to create you cuts and weld together

Roll the fabric onto your pink cutting mat and send it to cut, ensuring you use a rotary blade.

If You Want To Use This Free Template?

If you have Cricut Design Space access use this link to access the project. Alternatively follow these instructions to add the image to Cricut Design Space.

However you can also cut this project by hand but simple right clicking and saving the image, although do ensure when printing the template you get the size right, do this by dragging into word or an photo editing programme and dragging to the 10×10″.

Building Your Homemade Lavender Sachets

Weave your ribbon or wool in and out of the cuts in the fabric to create a pouch, leave this loose whilst you fill your lavender bag.

weave your ribbon in and out of the cuts to create your lavender bag

Now turn the sachet over and fill with the lavender and rice mixture. Before tightening the ribbon and wrapping around twice and securing with a bow then knot. Thus you can undo and refill on the future.

Now add the lavender and rice into your bag and secure the lavender bag ensuring you wrap the ribbon around twice to stop the rice and lavender leaking out
