The Danube,Vienna And The Sound Of Music

Share

Hello from life on the Danube River and our river cruise with Ama Waterways. It’s been a chaotic week, not at all what I expected from river cruising. I had visions of lots of chilling out and lazy days. The reality is so very different.

I am here representing Cruising With Kids and finding out if river cruising is a great family holiday. It’s such a wonderful way to explore and spend family time. It wouldn’t be for all families, however if you love family time and exploring cities then this is like the ultimate city break. I will be sharing more very soon over on Cruising With Kids, there is so much to tell you.

The AmaMagna

This is our first experience of river cruising and every one keeps telling us we have started from the very top. The ship is spectacular the AmaMagna is double width of traditional river cruise ships but with only 20% more passengers.

The ship has the most luxurious feel the cabins are spacious, the food is too good! Seriously I have eaten so much. Although we have walked for miles so I am hoping it will counteract all that food.

The Danube River

This is a spectacular region, and one of the things I love about this cruise is the pretty views all along the Danube, all set against the backdrop of the Danube milky green waters.

Sound of Music Locations in Salzburg

Exploring Salzburg

I have always adored the Sound Of Music and our tour of Salzburg took us the many of the locations the movie was filmed, I may have been a bit giddy about that. Salzburg is the most beautiful city, buzzing with life, crooked streets lined with pastel houses and lots of street cafes and bars to stop and watch the world go by. We spent a wonderful day exploring, and drinking Austrian beer in the sun.

Visiting Vienna

Vienna is somewhere I have always wanted to visit and it did not disappoint, in fact it was everything I imagined and more. The building are so grand and ornate. After our arranged tour we wandered through the Winter Palace looking at the crown jewels going back to 900.

We also visited Demel a famous cake and sweet shop and I have to say the chocolate was delicious. As was the views as we wandered the grand streets whilst doing a bit of shopping and stopping for the odd Aperol Spritz.

Missing The Boys

It’s been odd traveling without the boys and I have really missed them. This is the first time we have left them for a whole week. Although they are fine and having a great time back in the UK.

I think because I know they would love how chilled it is on here and all the activities and places to explore. We will definitely do a river cruise as a family in the future. There are teens on here, not loads but a couple. And the age demographic of the ship is so much younger than I imagined it would be.

The Week Ahead

The week ahead is going to be crazy, I am off to Southampton to join the Crown Princess for the day. We also have a Wedding and 21st party in London. It is going to be one of those feet don’t touch the ground weeks so I have no idea when I am going to do all the post holiday washing.

The walls of the garden room will also be going up, I think this has been the slowest part, waiting for the builder.

Have an amazing week whatever you are up too.

Disclaimer we are onboard the AmaMagna as guests but all opinions are my own and you cant argue with impeccable service, stunning locations and glorious ship and food that’s so good you can’t stop eating.
