My Weekly Round Up And Sharks

Hello how are you? Can you believe we are half way through the summer already? It has flown.

We have had another crazy action packed week; we started out with a chilled weekend. Where actually I don’t think I did much at all, apart from potter, clean, drink cocktails and eat food. But it was all about family time and enjoying that gorgeous weather. Where has it gone? The rain here was torrential, I love the sound of rain when I am in bed but oh my, it was so heavy and a bit scary last night.

This is what I have been up to this week.

Trying Out Mango Daiquiri’s

I have shared a recipe for Mango Daiquiri’s before, but it was a more of a cocktail mix. In St Lucia they made them with mango juice, rum, lime, crushed ice and mango. So simple and easy, so I may have had a few over the weekend. They are so refreshing on a sunny day and so quick to whip up in a smoothie maker.

I have had this one for a couple of years and we use it loads. Joe goes through stages of making milkshakes or fruit smoothies and punches. It’s such a great way of getting loads of fruit into kids and them thinking it’s a treat.

Not sure if I am loving this but am reading Why My Mummy Drinks by Gill Sims. I know this is such an on trend book. But I just can’t relate to it. I wonder if it is because it’s about a family with younger kids and I am so over that. I am hoping it will get better as I hate giving up on a book, but honestly I don’t really think I could tell you what has happened in the first quarter of the book.

Not giving blood

I went to give blood and was not allowed as I had been to St Lucia within 28 days. I understand it but it took me months to get that appointment. I have had to re-book and can’t get in till December. This will be the third time I have tried to give blood to lets hope its third time lucky.

Snorkelling With Sharks

Joe and I spent a wonderful day taking part in a shark keeper’s day at the Sea Life Centre Blackpool. This is something I would have always steered clear of. Mainly because of the whole animals in captivity thing, however I was so wrong. The work Sea Life as an organisation do in conservation is astounding. We spent some time with several Marine Biologists and their passion for the animals blew me away. I can’t wait to share more as it was a real eye opener for us.

As part of the experience we got to feed and snorkel in the shark tank, we were in a cage at the side of the tank. So the sharks, fish and turtle were not disturbed at all, it is all about observation not interaction. The animal’s welfare is paramount. As I stood on the side I felt sick I honestly didn’t think I would go in, but Joe was so excited and in order for him to swim, I had too. We have brought the boys up to always overcome their fears. So I took a deep breath and climbed in.

I don’t know what was more wonderful, seeing Joe’s face or the realisation I had overcome a fear. I seem to have developed a fear of most animals! I am so glad I did it, don’t get me wrong I wont be doing this with great whites. But sharks are beautiful animals and to see them swimming by you not really caring that you are there was wonderful.

Trying Out Curly Girl

Curly girl is not a new thing but its all based around this book which I need to buy.  My good friend Donna started Curly Girl and few weeks ago and is getting great results. So I decided I am so sick of straightening and curling my hair. Its crazy when it’s naturally curly. Curly girl is about embracing your natural curls, and if you follow it properly your hair will start reverting to its natural shape and a much better condition. I am only on week one and have good and bad results this week. But its early days. The lovely Elenor has also been following curly girl for 6 months and is getting great results, she has written about it here.

Loving Summer Sunsets

I love this time of year, the sunsets are always so stunning and we have caught a few pretty pink sunsets this week at the end of the garden. We just need the sunshine to return now so we can enjoy a few more.

Next week

Today Joe and I are off to spend the afternoon with friends. Then a lazy weekend ahead. When I say lazy I mean catching up with the housework. However next week I am off to see An Officer And A Gentleman at the Palace Theatre. I can’t wait as I love the film but haven’t seen it for years.

And then Tuesday Chris, Joe and I are off to discover what Swansea Bay; Mumbles & Gower have to offer families. So far I have no idea what we are doing which makes me nervous. But I am sure we will find out in good time. Check out my stories to see what we get up too.

Have a lovely week whatever you are up too?

The shark keeper day sounds amazing. Well done to you for overcoming your fears and swimming with them. Glad you had a lovely time in St Lucia. How frustrating to not be able to give blood though. I always seem to come down with colds when I go to give blood and constantly have to rearrange. Hope you enjoy seeing An Officer and a Gentleman next week and have a lovely time at Swansea Bay. #WotW

We have only had rain today and it’s lovely….We don’t have to go out in it, if we did I think I’d feel differently.
    The Mango Daiquiri’s sound amazing!
Oh no, that’s a shame about not being able to give blood…It seems such a long wait until you can try again.
You are so brave swimming with sharks…What an amazing experience though!

I loved seeing your Instastories about the swim, you did so well. Ah, I have dead straight hair, no straighteners ever need to go near it, I’d enjoy curly. Glad you’re embracing your curls! Thanks for sharing with #WotW x

WOW that sounds amazing, George isn’t old enough as yet but we would love to do this. Maybe not me. Ha ha. Well done for getting in. Given the current need for blood you would think that extra slots have been made available. My local donor centre is only open 3 days a weekfor about 6 hours a day. Its frustrating as such a good thing to do. Have a gorgeous week x

That sunset is gorgeous! They don’t make it easy to give blood. It took me months to get an appointment during school hours when I can go. X
