Travelling with older kids is tough, tough because you feel you need to be wearing many hats. Booking resorts that are buzzing with lots of activity, making sure is it a constant jam-packed itinerary.
Sometimes I run myself ragged searching, meeting our requirements, but also keeping the boys busy. And this year I made miraculous discovery.
They don’t want to do very much at all. And they don’t like busy!
Yes, you read that right! I got travel so wrong. Well, shall we say I got confused in the transition between tweens and teens? They like busy on their terms. They want luxury, great food a pool and peace. Space to play football, maybe a pool table and lots of long lie-ins!
I am not sure when this transition happened. The boys love activities; water sports in fact any sport. But it all has to be on their terms. They want a balance of activity and chill.
There will be no booking sun-beds in advance in the Christie household as that means too many people! And early mornings! These guys want tranquillity the sound of the wind blowing thorough the trees. And to choose how and when they spend their time.
I dream of long lazy family lunches followed by an afternoon chilling by the pool. And alfresco dinners as we watch the sun setting over the sea.
What Excites And Inspires Me About Simpson Holidays?
Simpson holidays can meet our family’s needs, offering us somewhere to chill. For the boys to be normal teenagers, to be allowed to sleep in until silly o’clock without it ruining our day. And whilst they sleep in a teenage slumber I can grab my camera and wander, capturing beautiful views as our giant babies sleep.
And Chris and I can chill by the pool over breakfast without feeling we need to drag the boys out of bed.
Where we can enjoy breath-taking views and watch sunsets with a glass of wine in hand, with no need to rush to be anywhere.
I want my little family to myself for just a little while, to step off the wheel and just be. Time is ticking away, they are growing up and I want to squeeze every adventure into our lives before we are no longer part of their travel plans.
With a car parked at our door so we can find adventure, or be close enough to walk and explore beautiful towns with pretty flower lined streets, peppered with bicycles and pretty shutters. Where we can try out local food and people watch as the sun sets over the ocean.
We want luxurious surroundings, with historic Instagram worthy features to make you swoon, or contemporary interiors that are basking in light.
