My Festive Fireplace With Laura Ashley

It’s the 1st of December, the Elves are out in force and Christmas music is now an expected feature on the radio.

As much as I love summer and all things sunny there is something exciting about this time of year. From the first moment you get a frost on the ground, the first snowfall of the season (which we enjoyed last weekend) or that first cup of steaming hot mulled wine.

It’s all in the anticipation isn’t it? Waiting for the big day, the build up with all the Carole services and Christmas movies on the TV. Or indeed festive shows, we went to see Elf the Musical this week and I am still on a high, it has the most amazing feel good factor.

The weather, fingers crossed, looks set to behave.

This time last year and the year before we were being battered by rain and strong winds. So yes it may be cold, but we have frost and blue skies with smatterings of snow here and there. That is what I call a real winter, where we can enjoy long family walks and enjoy breathtakingly views. Not wet and soggy weather where you are spending all of you time trying to keep dry.

And tonight I plan to embrace the season and make homemade mulled wine. I have a good bottle all ready to go. Which I will enjoy whilst we all snuggle in front of the log burner, watching the flames dancing and the decorations twinkling as the world goes dark and our view disappears outside.

Having a log burner is so important to us; it’s a focal point of our home. As such it is the first area I decorate in the lounge for Christmas.

And as we have chosen a white tree for the lounge this year that I have already had a practice building. I just love how simple and effective it turned out. Now I can’t wait to re unbox and decorate it to stay up for the season.

The fireplace has to match the white theme so I have chosen some new pieces from Laura Ashley to create a simple but pretty and sparkly look.

For me the key to a great festive look is choosing some pieces that you can use all year round like this gorgeous hurricane vase with twinkly lights, that sets of a festive display but will still look like it belongs long after the festivities and 12th night.

  1. Aw how cute does Toby look on the Laura Ashley website. Your fireplace looks so cosy Sarah and I love the festive wreath, as well as the lights in the vase. Our tree doesn’t usually go up until the middle of December but looking forward to making our fireplace all festive too x
