A Road Trip to Guedelon Country and The Burgundy Backroads

23rd May 2016 by SarahJChristie 2 Comments

Next week we have a very exciting trip booked,  we are going on a  family road trip of Guedelon country and the Burgundy backroads.

Sometimes you have to do something totally different to your usual type of trip, and for us Guedelon country is going to be a more natural rustic kind of holiday, set in beautiful countryside, and lots of exciting activities.

We are starting of our little trip by travelling across to France on the Ferry and driving down to Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye to a beautiful old farmhouse Damaine de Varenne where we will be the guests of Linda and Toby.

I am so exited to meet them as I have read so much on trip advisor about their wonderful hospitality, and cant wait to get into the gorgeous grounds with my camera. I am soooo excited about experiencing French hospitality and the stunning surroundings.

Whilst we are guests of Linda and Toby we have some exciting activities planned;

Starting with a trip to Guedelon which is a castle being built using medieval techniques and materials. It sounds crazy doesn’t it? But promises to be very interesting. We have a stone-carving workshop booked, which I know the boys will just love.  And to be transported back in time to medieval methods of building will be a real eye opener.

We also have a treasure hunt and tree trekking arranged, which for me will be a glorious opportunity to take copious amounts of photos of the French countryside. I am sure the boys will be more interested in the concept of the treasure hunt and climbing than photographing the stunning scenery.  However they do get quite competitive so these should be eventful activities.

From there we are moving on to Saint Fargeau to spend a couple of nights in the most gorgeous Hotel des Grandes Chenes, owned by Rachael and Alain again with wonderful reviews. I can’t wait to share more about our accommodation with you as they are both so pretty.

I am looking forward to waking up on a hopefully glorious morning with bright blue skies, (I have everything crossed). And enjoy a coffee, maybe eat a croissant, although I shouldn’t, I know I can’t resist!  Overlooking the beautiful countryside, hopefully at some stage get that elusive perfect Me and Mine picture, a girl can dream.

Whist we are staying with Rachael and Alain we have a horse track booked, I am beside myself with excitement. I have always been terrified of horses, but last year had a lesson and realised it was not so bad. Joe is a competent rider and I love watching him ride, he is so confident. So to get my family all out on a track is going to be incredible.

We will also be visiting the Chateau de Saint Fargeau, which looks so very grand and beautiful. At 1000 years old I am imagining it has so many tales to tell. The last activity and one I am oh so excited about is a family cookery course.  I have a whole macaron Pinterest board so the get the chance to learn from an expert is so exciting, we all love cooking so this promises to be such a great session.

From there we say goodbye to Burgundy and head down to Tours for a spot of wine tasting with some of our best friends, the perfect way to round-up our French adventure. I can’t wait to share my daily postcards, and all the wonderful places we eat, sleep and visit I just know it is going to be an exciting trip.

    Sarah this sounds an amazing road trip, and definitely something different to do. You certainly sound as if you have lots of activities planned, and I like the sound of the wine tasting. It has to be done when visiting France. Have a great trip and look forward to reading all about it x
