Dreams of Visiting Dubai

Seeing this competition was a bit like an epiphany moment. You see I have always had grand Dreams of Visiting Dubai. It has been up there on the Christie travel wish list yet we have never quite made it.

The boys are desperate to visit for such different reasons, and when over dinner I mentioned I might just enter, Jack rolled his eyes at me and said I have wanted to go to Dubai forever!

Dreams of Visiting Dubai and being In Dubai Training All Our Lives

Clearly they have been in a box all of their lives, never travelled anywhere! But it seems Dubai is the one place they both long to visit. I suppose what I never considered is that of all the places we have been, all the adventures we have enjoyed and loved, are all right there in Dubai.

Yup, all in one place, think of the plane fares we could have saved if we had visited Dubai first. We have friends that visit every year, they keep saying once you go you will never look back. I think I get why now.

Dreams of Visiting Dubai and being In Dubai Training All Our Lives

I decided to gather together some of the activities we have experienced that we could have done in Dubai, and the activities spanned 5 different locations, all incredible all wonderful holidays. But so mind-blowing that you can do it all in one glorious place.

Dreams of Visiting Dubai and being In Dubai Training All Our Lives

It seems all of our little adventures have been like a training exercise getting us ready for Dubai, all those incredible adventures in one place, and not only that?  Somewhere to chill and relax, the glorious hot sun, warm sea and long beach walks what more could you ask for.

Dreams of Visiting Dubai and being In Dubai Training All Our Lives

I thought I would share our wish list, and how we have prepared ourselves for these activities, check out my little slide show and see exactly how we have prepared for the holiday that has it all, and what is on our top 5 Dubai wish list to suit all budgets including the incredible Dubai Fountain which is free to watch and looks oh so beautiful.

This is my entry in to the Tots100/Dubai Dreams blogger challenge, and the amazing thing is, if I win, then one of my readers will also be chosen from the comments below to win a dream holiday to Dubai of their very own. So get commenting on your very own Dubai Dreams, make it creative for your very own chance to win a trip to the gorgeously stunning and very exciting Dubai.

What a fantastic blog! Dubai looks like a place dreams are made of! Paul would love this place with the amazing buildings. I’m not sure if Dubai would suit the age of all my children but I’m sure the grandparents would look after my youngest two! Haha! Harry (aged 9) and Joe (aged 7) would certainly enjoy the Dubai experience. Fingers crossed 🙂

    Good luck

I love your training video and I couldn’t agree more about Dubai having it all. We are well trained for Ski Dubai as we are a family that love to ski but how amazing is it that you can mix a ski holiday with a beach holiday and also with an adventure holiday? That shows what a great family destination Dubai is and why families must want to keep going back over and over again.

I think we can all learn a great deal from Dubai. Travel anywhere is one of those things you spend money on but it actually makes you richer but travelling to Dubai i think offers children that something else. In Dubai anything is possible, it’s one of those places where if you can dream it you can do it and I think that’s an amazing thing to teach our children. It’s a place of opportunity, excitement, hope and it certainly scream FUTURE at you.

Good luck with your entry x

Hmmh! I do not suppose Waltzing Waters on the Isle of Wight really counts as training for Dubai Fountain so maybe I will stick with the idea that a holiday would be more appreciated by a family who could not afford to travel the world making up the elements to compare!!

    Dubai in summer
    Dubai in spring
Dubai in winter is still a wonderous thing

Golden sands as far as the eye can see
Dancing water twisting and swirling around the kids and me
A tower so tall that a plane would catch you if you fall
I have to say without a doubt Dubai is the holiday that has it all

Awesome! I’d love to go to Dubai. The Middle East fascinates me. It’s the style of the buildings, plus it seems to have everything… blue seas, the shopping ( not that i’d really do have a lot to spend, but it’s duty free, so bargains to be had).I must admit to being fascinated by the Burj too…although, I find it a bit much for my way of thinking… the wealth etc…I’m still intrigued by it, watched the programme about it being built, and it’s interesting to read about on Tripadvisor and see pics of the inside…a whole different way of life. Loved the video…I’d be doing the cheap/ free stuff, but that fountain is something else.

Your video is amazing!! What a fantastic place to go with so much to see and such a variety of things to experience all in one go. When planning a holiday I just hope for a lovely sandy beach and nice weather I don’t think I’ve ever really thought a destination through as to what other sites we could see whilst there and other fun we could be having. Your video and blog has without a doubt inspired me, I got jitters at the thought of experiencing your top 5 activities to do. After getting married this year and making my little family complete we have wondered what to do for a honeymoon, do we go away for a long weekend on our own, do we take the kids and have a bit of sun for a week, do we explore Isle of Wight again (would be my 15th time there) or do we stay local and see what we can cram in. But after watching your video and reading your blog I think this has now become the place I want to go the place I want to see the place I want to ski, sunbath and have adventures on with the whole of my little family. I really do hope you win Sarah, and if I never get chance to get there I’m sure I’ll get comfort out of the photos you will take and the blogs you will update us all wth as you do it so well and deserve it. I don’t know who would be more excited me, Ben or the kids but what a fantastic way to round up the last year I’ve had making my family complete with what looks like a family’s first holiday dream come true. Good Luck Sarah I have everything crossed for you (and me ????) xXx

    Dreams of Dubai!

I have never been to Dubai before but I’ve been dreaming of visiting for a few years. Here’s my dream itinerary for a fabulous four day holiday!

Day One: I always like to spend my first day taking it easy after the journey there and try to get a feeling for the local area. So we would spend day one having a relaxing swim in the sea and then a exploratory walk. Later, we would take the 90 minute Yellow Boat tour (Dubai RIB Boat Cruise: Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina). It’s an exhilarating ride around the bay for the kids (but not too tiring) and a great way to see the Palm Atlantis, Burj Al-Arab and the royal palaces.

Day Two: The second day would begin with a once-in-a-lifetime deep-water dolphin encounter at Atlantis The Palm – something all the family would love and remember forever. The dolphin experience also gives you free entrance to the Atlantis’ Aquaventure Waterpark and 25% off your visit to the Lost Chambers Aquarium, so that’s day two covered!

Day Three: After a couple of child-focussed activity days, my children are usually more open to a more adult-orientated sightseeing tour so we would spend our third day with Tour Val, a highly-recommended sight-seeing tour of the old and new city so we can learn more about the beautiful city of Dubai.

Day Four: You can’t visit the desert without riding a camel so we would spend our final day on a Platinum Heritage tour, offering a Camel Safari followed by a Land Rover Safari in the desert where you are taken for a meal and entertainment at a bedouin camp!

You see, Dubai is so magical. You would think you were dreaming, even when you’re there!

Dubai really does have it all. Like yourself I have experienced some of the highlights elsewhere in the world. Swimming with dolphins in Jamaica. A desert safari in Egypt. I could go on, but the point is, for me all those things were pre-children. Now that I have my own kids I want to make sure that any destination I go to will be suitable for them. No more booking cheap dodgy hotel rooms for me!
No, I want luxury. I want excitement. I want my children to think that I am the best parent in the whole world, and I want to see their eyes light up with amazement at a world so different to our own, that it feels like magic.
I want to splash out for tea in the Burj al Arab. And just splash about in one of the many water parks And relish in the delight of warm sea water. I mean, my children and I usually have to dip our toes in the Atlantic, and I can assure you it is freezing! Often we wear wellie boots in the sea.
To be a part of such a diverse culture, and teach my children about different religions and different lifestyles, would be an education for them, which would help shape them into the young men I hope they will become.
To be able to experience the smells and sights of the local markets, would probably make me dizzy with joy.
To take my children to an aquarium like the one in Dubai, would amaze and astound them – they have never been to one at all!
I know I do not deserve to win this competition any more than any of the other entries. But I can’t imagine any wants to win it more than me.
    Good luck to all!

Fab comment Mel and I totally agree with you, I love seeing the joy on our boys faces as we travel, when they experience new sights, cultures, food, and experience for the first time. Sometimes I could cry at the wonder in their faces and when they discuss happy travel memories. That was always my aim as a parent to enable them to experience the world, that was what inspired me to work long hours to travel with our boys. Best of luck Mel x

I’ve been to Dubai airport only for connecting flights, I’d love to visit the city – hopefully not in July or in Ramadan though! Did you know they sell camel burgers in some specialised restaurants? Not my cup of tea, but sounds interesting! We have friends who love Dubai and keep telling us its the place to visit. It certainly looks like there would be something for everyone in my family, I like the idea of long beach walks, my son would love the fountains and music show and the water parks. And Dad could enjoy the food and seeing everyone happy at making family memories together. 🙂 Good luck with your entry as I can imagine your boys might get a little excited if you won.

ok, I am sure there is much more than the hotels and the beaches that Dubai has to offer, now lets see…
Yes, the shopping at the market and to visit the Gold Souk and Spice Souk as I would love to treat myself every now and then but do not get the opportunity to with this economy.
The zoo hmm yes animals in Dubai should be interesting what they have for me to see . As I love food I would be trying out the street food the locals in Dubai have created. I might go on a sarfari if the zoo wouldn’t float my boat.
ok ok I am a big kid I would be going to the water park Aquaventre and for the night I would do moonlit yoga! Bliss!

Well Dubai is a place that I’ve always wanted to visit – I’ve stopped there to change flights but never been able to see anything further than the airport.
The last time that I flew via Dubai fate stepped in, and I got chatting to the passenger sat next to me. At the time I was just coming out of the other side of an episode of depression, and my flight buddy has kept in touch and been a rock of support that j never expected. He lives and works in Dubai and I would love the chance to visit him, sadly on a social worker’s wage that isn’t going to happen any time soon!
I would dearly love the opportunity to visit my flight buddy and thank him for all the support that he has given me through phone calls and messages. I will keep my fingers and toes tightly crossed! x

It has culture and weather, you can go wherever!

Our family loves Dubai and believe it is the best family holiday destination ever! An inspirational place, with so much to see and do, not just its year round sunshine and gorgeous beaches. The warm, unsurpassable hospitality you receive will guarantee it a place in your family’s heart. Dubai has the World’s best of everything, including horse racing, water parks, cuisine, shopping mall – complete with ice rink and aquarium inside, tallest building and must see musical fountain. There’s no poverty, and the public transport is easily accessible and inexpensive. Give it a go; the entire holiday will be the best family thrill ride they’ve ever been on! You’ll also be pleasantly surprised by what excellent value it is.

I would love to take my grandsons on a Dream Trip to Dubai – a clean, safe, family-friendly holiday destination, with plenty of activities to choose from for any age range. As well as relaxing on the beautiful golden sand of JBR Beach with its warm, calm and shallow waters we would all enjoy a dune- bashing safari followed by a camel ride and BBQ dinner in a Bedouin desert camp.

We would visit the Dubai Museum in the Al Fahidi Fort to learn about life from a bygone era as a contrast to the amazing architecture of the modern city which we could view from the front or rear carriages of the driverless Dubai Metro system and then take it all in from the At The Top observation deck of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

The free and impressive Dubai Fountain water, light and music show can be watched from one of many waterfront cafes just outside the Dubai Mall. The malls in Dubai have many family attractions to choose from. The boys could try ice-skating, helped by the ‘penguin pals’, visit the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo and also see the giant 155 million year old dinosaur skeleton (DubaiDino), all in the Dubai Mall.

The boys love theme parks and this summer Dubai will open the world’s largest indoor theme park – IMG Worlds of Adventure with four themed zones inside including Marvel, Cartoon Network, Lost Valley – Dinosaur Adventure and IMG Boulevard. This will be completely enclosed and temperature-controlled with 1.5 million square feet of entertainment space!

Our only problem will be going home with so much more left for us to see and do in beautiful Dubai.

Love it! I have clearly been training to go to Dubai too! We took the boys when my youngest had just turned 3. I was worried that they were too young, but it really caters for all ages. We managed the Burj Kahlifa, Dubai Mall and fountains, and aquaadventure, but still have so much more we would like to do! I love that you can have a penguin encounter in the middle of the dessert! If we were to go back I would like to do a desert safari this time. A bit of dune bashing and a camel safari. I think that would be pretty amazing

Dubai looks simply amazing. So much to do, so many different worlds all wrapped up in one gorgeous place. Looking at what Dubai has to offer, I’ve been really impressed by the range of family-friendly options – theme parks, indoor fun sessions, skate parks – as well as sports, stunning beaches, and entertainment.

What I hadn’t realised was how much variety there is in Dubai in terms of food and culture. Our son is a huge foodie, despite being only 10, and would love visiting some of the restaurants and tasting the new flavours.

As a family we would love to be able to visit Dubai, and experience just a taste of what is on offer. Our elder son loves nature, so would enjoy the different wildlife on show. And dad… well, quad-biking in the sand dunes would suit him perfectly. As for mum… of course Dubai is a shopper’s paradise! And I’m sure we would all enjoy a tour of historic Dubai, as well as the many museums. There truly is something for everyone.

The hardest part will be choosing what to do. It really does seem that Dubai has it all, a wealth of opportunities to explore and experience.

Dubai really is the city of possibilities and I want to ‘Discover All That’s Possible In Dubai’.

I got chatting once to a guy walking his dog down a winding English country lane, one drizzly grey day. He ended up telling me about sunny-skied Dubai, singing its praises – he’d just been to visit his daughter there. He also told me about the ski place there….so I’d love to be able to say I learnt to ski in the desert! I did sort of go down a hillside on skis once, but that wasn’t really ski-ing, more like a sort of long tumble/stumble….!

Stopped of in Dubai in 2007 on my way to Australia. Well, what a place 😉 , An amusing story was from the Duty Free hall at the airport, back then being a smoker and a Vodka drinker, I thought ok best get some supplies for my stay in Oz. I got 400 cigs and a litre of Grey Goose Vodka (yeah the good stuff). When I approached the checkout, the girl said ” How are you paying sir?” , I said Australian Dollars. She then said ” Thank you that will be 68 Dollars, I nearly collapsed as I roughly calculated that in GBP that would be less than 30 quid. My inital thought being mmm Australia can wait, i’m staying here lol. Anyway I gave the girl a $100 note and she gave me $30 dollars and wait for it …. 3 packs of chewing gum, she said ” I’m very sorry sir , I have no small change.” She was so apologetic and sincere, I didn’t mind at all and I was so touched by her sincerity it made my whole transaction delightful. My biggest regret was that I didn’t have a stay over in Dubai as I’m positive I would have loved every minute.

Dubai has been at the top of my bucket list for many years now and reading you post has made me want to visit so much more!

Souks, skyscrapers, sand and sea, Dubai really has something for all the family and the possibility of visiting this incredible city is making me super excited.

I’d love the opportunity to win our perfect family holiday in Dubai; a holiday for the four of us, that combines unlimited opportunities for fun and adventure. We’d be able to
escape the ‘day to day’, making memories and recharging our batteries. And it would give us the chance to simply spend our days together as a family, enjoying each other’s company before Jack starts school in September.

There are so many amazing adventures we’d like to experience, but our top 3 would have to be:

1// A day of aquatic fun at Atlantis’ Aquaventure Waterpark to cool off in the Dubai heat. Aquaventure caters for all the family with its record-breaking rides and slides for thrill seekers and the Splashers’ Children’s Play Area, which is a haven for little ones with water cannons, slides and climbing frames.

2 // A once-in-a-lifetime experience at Dolphin Bay. As there’s no age limit, we could enjoy this amazing experience as a family and I can only imagine the joy on the children’s faces when they get up close to these amazing creatures!

3 // Experience the heady heights of Burj Khalifa. We couldn’t visit Dubai without venturing up the tallest building in the World, and although I’m afraid of heights, I’d still feel compelled to visit the observation deck on the 144th floor. As long as I don’t stand too close to the edge, nor look vertically down, I think I’d actually enjoy it.

I’m now off to spend the day daydreaming about Dubai and all it has to offer…

Best of luck with your entry!

I would love to go to Dubai just to see that yet there is so much more all in one place – it is almost too hard to imagine so I will have to go there to find out for myself 🙂 The beautiful beach beckons me, incredible concerts and entertainment, retail heaven and then relax and unwind by trying out traditional spa therapies at the hammam! The food in Dubai looks divine and I bet it is delicious. My husband would love the adventure sports, golf courses and falconry. There is something here for everyone. Dubai is a dream destination.

There is nowhere else like it. My top destinations would be:
1.Atlantis water park. I have never been in a water park when it was warm enough for it to be actually a pleasure, but I guess that would be pretty much guaranteed in Dubai!
    2. Dubai Conservation Reserve. A 4 by 4 safari in an exotic natural environment, which my kids would LOVE and I’d like to get out of the city and see the countryside.
    3. Miracle Garden. I saw it on Gardener’s World I think and it made a huge impression. (As an aside, that was me tweeting Monty Don about any chance of a programme on Islamic Gardening a few days ago.) Grand scale concept gardening against the odds for me and in your face whackiness for the kids.
    4. I’d have to root this out, but isn’t Arabia the original home of perfume? Particularly the woods (and ouds), ambers and orientals? I done with white florals, I’d like to explore this angle.
Gosh, I would LOVE to go to Dubai.

Wow, just wow! Well for a start I don’t think I would get my son out of the waterpark, for him that is a dream come true in itself but then i think I could persuade him to take a trip to see the dolphins 🙂
My husband would love to quad in to the sand dunes and to try all the delicious cuisines that Dubai has to offer, he is also partial to a bit of sunbathing so he would be in his element here
For me it has to be the shop till you drop in all of those amazing shopping malls! I think I would be in shopping heaven! I would also like to lie on the beach with its stunning views relaxing with a good book and an iced tea. I would make a special trip to the Burj Khalifa – although I wouldn’t like to go to the top as I’m scared of heights, I would love to have Afternoon Tea there
As a beauty therapist, I would like to try out the spas and experience their treatments for myself, I would love to see what treatments were on offer and to be a relaxing client for a change 🙂

What a fantastic video. Dubai really does have it all doesn’t it? We would love to go at some point but not sure how we would ever be able to afford it at the moment. Good luck in the competition S xx

What a great blog post! My partner would absolutely love it here. She loves nothing more than the sun and water parks (still a child at heart). If we came to Dubai I’m sure the water park would be far superior to one we visited in Menorca last year in which she broke her nose.

I love Dubai! I’ve never been, but my brother and sister-in-law and niece live there and while I haven’t seen them for 3 years- I know they have the best family days out all the time! From plenty of fun arts and crafts days to swimming at the Atlanta water park to hitting the beach or just shopping til you drop at the malls! And I hear the conservation centre is amazing! I’d love to visit them with my sister and niece so we can all take part in the fun!

It makes me feel so inspired to book plane tickets watching and reading this post. It looks absolutely incredible and exactly the kind of holiday you dream of taking with your children. I had no idea until a few weeks ago what a brilliant place Dubai was for children and families and I wish (like you) that we’d made ourselves visit a lot sooner. When I think of all the amazing adventures we could have been having…definitely a must visit place for us sometime in the near future. Good luck with your entry.

Your slide show is fabulous and I love how you have viewed your previous holidays and experiences as ‘training’ for Dubai. It really does seem to be THE place that has it all and how wonderful it would be to be able to experience so much on just one holiday. It seems the perfect place for families, for individuals, for foodies, for explorers, for adventurers, even for conservationists and those who love nature with the turtle sanctuary and aquarium. A fabulous place that meets so many dreams but not in a ‘one size fits all’ kind of way but in a ‘pick and mix’ all your favourite activities and experiences kind of way. Dubai is a destination firmly on my bucket list now I have been dreaming away looking at the Visit Dubai website.

It’s amazing just how much there is to do in Dubai that I didn’t even know about. My dream is for me and my family to swim with Dolphins in Dubai (it makes me tear up at the thought!). I would love to do it in a much more natural setting than in a swimming pool and I have heard there are some amazing places to swim with them! I would love to visit Atlantis too as it would be a brilliant day for everyone (and I am a big kid). I also wouldn’t mind chilling on the beach with my boys, building sandcastles too. Just heaven!

Oh my goodness that sea doesn’t look real! It’s not until you see it from the air that you realise just how spectacular the landscape is. My boys are almost the opposite, they have no idea about Dubai, about it’s culture, history, heritage and all the modern theme parks and attractions. It would blow their minds! Like they haven’t realised a place like this exists. A unique destination! Good luck with your entry, great post! xx

Ah Lucy it would blow their minds just a bit, its incredible how different our boys are but that is age isn’t it? Sadly I know we are getting to the end of Jack wanting to travel with us, we probably have a year at the most, I feel so sad about it all our lovely adventures we have had and soon he will be wanting to go on the dreaded boys holiday eek, bet of luck to you wouldn’t it be great to show Dubai from both ends of the scale x

Your itinerary sounds amazing; I have added the Fountains to my bucket list!
I had a look at the Visit Dubai website and there is so much to do. I would love to go to the Souks and buy some fabric to make cushions etc. I would also love to stock up on aromatic, exotic spices to liven up my cooking back home. My husband hates shopping, so I’d probably have to send him off to do something else, perhaps he would enjoy Dune bashing.
I’m sure after the trip we would come back with a longer list of places we want to go in Dubai.

Ahhh well this is a little bit exciting! Having an absolute desire to travel the world is a difficult one to balance when you also have a thousand and one other goals and ambitions on the horizon! Because of this, travel falls to the back burner (temporarily), which genuinely saddens my heart. Dubai has always been one for the travel hit list and so this would be an amazing opportunity to live that dream. Anyone that knows me, wouldn’t be surprised to hear that my travel plans are with my partner in crime – my sissy! #WANDERLUST

Sarah I’m so proud of you for what you have achieved with your blogs, you inspire me to reach for my dreams and believe that I can achieve them! I have always dreamt of going to Dubai for so many reasons, the culture, the underwater zoo, water parks, theme parks, the Dubai fountains, Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah and let’s not forget the shopping, ahhhh need I go on. I think that this would be an opportunity of a life a time and would enable me to make one of my dreams a reality. There is no time like the present ?????????????

What a great prize lovely – good luck! I have family and friends over in Dubai but yet to visit – it’s on my hot list of places to go. Was supposed to go last year but due to the separation from the girls dad lots of plans changed! One day though – as I have family in Lebanon and Qatar. I REALLY want to skydive there too. UK was awesome but somewhere like this or Qatar would be off the scale and some “me time” would be just amazing right now. Ah well, dreams cost nothing as my mum says. Xx
