It’s amazing; I must have walked past this gorgeous tree dozens and dozens of times since I was 15, yet I have never properly noticed it. Never opened my eyes and seen its beauty.
Yet Sunday when Joe and I were on our pre football match quest for ice cream I saw it. Yes, I have seen it before, but not properly and wow how can I have passed by so many times.
Almost like it has risen up out of the ground, many of the roots have grown above ground level. Maybe this is the effect of years of land erosion caused by being perched so high up on a hill-side.
Or maybe that’s just how this majestic tree grew, a little different, stands proud despite being so different from all the other trees around it, unique and beautiful.
Who knows how it ended this way? But it just makes you want to stand and admire it, inspect the roots as they twist and turn, and marvel at its beauty. It almost looks as if it could just stand up and walk away. Sometimes it’s amazing what you can see when you just open your eyes isn’t it?
What a beautiful tree – I could stand for ages just looking at the little nooks and crannies created by the roots and that beautiful carpet of moss growing around them.
Thanks Louise, I know exactly what you mean it is almost mesmerising x
It *is* beautiful – those exposed roots are amazing and hint at decades of stories.
I know Tim if tree’s could tell stories hey, it is just stunning x
It doesn’t look like it should be standing upright with all that root above ground. A tree with quite a history it is holding as it’s secret.
Yes Fiona it is just incredible isn’t it?
What a fabulous tree! The moss is very pretty. It looks as though it’s supporting it’s own little micro eco-system.
I know it does, doest it? I wonder how many animals have made their homes in those roots x
It is very beautiful! I like how you photographed it in lots of different ways and angles perspective. The tree’s roots is almost as high as your boy! #MySundayPhoto
Thank you Su, it was just beautiful I could have taken so many more but Joe was getting bored ! x
Hi Sarah, I love photographing ‘naked’ old trees as they are so interesting. Can you imagine what that tree has seen over the year? Never mind dogs, just imagine what old trees could tell us.
xx
I know Debbie it is mind boggling when you think the tales this tree could tell x
I don’t know what is more fantastic, the tree or the fact you’ve lived in the same place since 15. Must be so nice to be familiar/comfortable with a place.
Brooke we did move away for 10 years but still used to come back and visit, its weird as I grew up in Essex but feel much more of a Northerner x
It’s majestic almost, it’s so old and statuesque items wonderful. I often wonder how many decades of change a used like that must’ve seen.
Lovely photos, hope you found your ice cream
I know that is exactly what I thought Tracey, isn’t it gorgeous? x
It has lots of character and I bet it’s been home to any many animals
Thank you for linking up
I know I bet it does, it would be fab to set a motion camera up on it x
Definitely looks like a face staring at you at the bottom there, fascinating
I know it really was very beautiful and very fascinating x
That tree definitely looks like something out of a fairytale. I love it! #MySundayPhoto

Thanks Sherry, it was just so beautiful such an easy subject x
That is so beautiful Sarah and amazing photographs! I love the one looking up at it, almost looks enchanted xx
Thank you Hayley, it does doesn’t it, do ou know it almost reminds me of how I imagined the Faraway Tree to look x
It really is stunning Sarah. I love things like that, and as a matter of fact I have two ‘tree’ pictures from a recent walk that we went on too. One tree was just huge in comparison to the others around it, and the other, was two trees intertwined with each other. Don’t think I’ve captured it like you’ve managed to though! Fab shots. Steph xxx #MySundayPhoto
