Day 4 found us arriving at Belton Woods Q Lodges, we were all a tad excited as having stayed at Q Lodges before, we knew what great quality to expect from a family lodge break with Q Lodges. And Belton Woods did not disappoint. We had arrived in darkness and driving rain and could not believe how long the drive was to the main house from the road, and because visibility was quite poor could not appreciate the sheer scale of the grounds that Belton Woods is set in.
And after what I can only describe as my favourite check in into any hotel I have ever been too. Yes, this is quite a grand claim but Stephen on reception not only gave us the warmest of welcomes but had Jack and I in hysterics, seriously go to Belton Woods just to meet Stephen, he should be working in stand up comedy, but at the same time was so very professional. By the time we climbed back into the car to a sleeping Joe and very impatient Chris, Jack and I had tears rolling down our face.
Our lodge seemed quite a way from the main house in the dark, but oh my when I open the curtains in the morning to the glorious views it blew me away. Belton Woods is set in a golf course, yet also has acres of forest for you to explore. And part of the absolute pleasure of staying at this stunning location is the series of footpaths that lead you to the main house, the countryside is just breathtaking. I would say our lodge was around a 5-minute walk to the main building. But the walk was just glorious, making you want to explore the surrounding countryside and woodland.
Julia the lodges’ manager had arranged lots of exciting activities for us, to show exactly what Belton Woods has to offer families, and I must say there is so much to do. The beauty of staying in a lodge is that you have the option to chill out or get involved in the wealth of activities they have on offer.
We started out with a golf lesson from Iain, it’s amazing that your lesson can be so very different depending on your instructor, they all have such diverse ways of educating and offer differing methods and suggestions. Iain was great, and by the end of the lesson had me getting a little distance on my swing. Of course Chris and the boys were naturals as usual, but I will get there if I keep practicing.
After our lesson I headed off to the spa for a massage, and Tara my beauty therapist was fantastic I felt so very relaxed. The spa is part of a leisure center with a gym, squash courts and pool, with the addition of the golf club and Claret Jug sports bar it is great for active families.
We had a very enjoyable long relaxed lunch in the Claret Jug and although it was very busy the service was great and the atmosphere was chilled, with views overlooking the golf course it is the perfect place to chill on a sunny day.
And Stantons Bar is the most beautiful chilled environment, yet they made us very welcome with the boys. The staff went out of their way to chat with the boys and the bar man had them puzzled a few times with some of his quizzes and riddles.
In terms of family activities, the choice is endless, from seaways, archery, crazy golf and quad biking to name a few. Jack and I took part in Segway Safari, poor old Joe was not heavy enough, I was so proud of him he took it so well and went off with Chris for a game if crazy golf. I think he was happy to have a bit of 1 to 1 time with Chris and Mark from off-limits gave him a lolly as compensation, so Joe was a happy bunny.
We spent our last evening enjoying a wonderful dinner a Stanton’s Brasserie and were lucky enough that our gorgeous nieces who live not too far away were able to join us for dinner; we had a wonderful evening with great food and excellent service. I didn’t get our waitresses name but she was fab. And according to Jack, Stanton’s serve the best steak he has ever eaten.
For us as a family, Q Lodges really has it all, beautiful countryside locations, with a great choice of activities yet they are not over populated, that for me really made a difference.
I know I have said it before but I truly believe Q Lodges may well become a family tradition for us as we just love the whole concept, fantastic quality, action packed, and space for a bit of chill time, an if you don’t fancy cooking you can always nip to the main house for breakfast lunch and dinner. Thank you Julia and the team we had a wonderful time and would thoroughly recommend Belton Woods.
