It’s been a manic but fun couple of weeks and this week has seen me trying my best to catch up, so many bits and pieces I needed to organise. I have had lots of emails, housework, washing to catch up on grrr. But I feel I have finally got there at last, and am feeling a little more organised.
I have also had a little time to play about with my gorgeous new lens that the boys with a little help from Chris bought me for Mothers Day, I have wanted a 1.8 lens for a while now. I just love my camera but just felt the lens would help me achieve some of the aperture and portrait results I was struggling with, and omg it is incredible I love it.
I haven’t had loads of time to play with it, but just in terms of brighter photos it is really delivering. I love how it can make a subject pop, I used it when taking a photo of Jack last week and was thrilled with the result. So have been practicing around the house on Joe and Toby, although I think they are all getting a bit bored of having a camera pointing at them ha ha.
I have also been practicing on flowers, these gorgeous roses were such a bargain from Lidl, costing £4 for 2 bunches and they are so beautiful, from now on I will be taking a weekly trip to buy my flowers from Lidl. There was a good selection of colours to choose from too, it just shows that you don’t have to spend the earth but can still get great quality.
I have had to edit these photos a little bit but nowhere like how I used to, learning to set the shot up in the camera has been such a revelation to me, and have a lens that can alter my aperture to 1.8 is making a huge difference on darker dull days.
Honestly if you were toying with the idea of doing a photography course I would say go for it, for me it has been so worth it. I may not be David Bailey, but I am becoming so much more confident with the camera, and for recording family memories is just the best thing ever.
I also got the chance to catch up with 3 of my great friends this week for lunch or dinner; it’s so great having a catch up. And as busy as I seem to make myself, its wonderful to be able to have the time to be able to see friends, when I was teaching it was so much harder. I honestly can’t believe how this last 6 months has panned out, I couldn’t have dreamt I would be so lucky this time a year ago. And who can believe it is Easter next week, where has this year gone? But Easter generally means spending time with friends, and I am so looking forward to next weekend when we will have a houseful and our great friends will be spending the weekend with us.
And lastly, awards season is on us, and the buzz and excitement has started in the blogging community as nominations open for 2 sets of awards. So far I have sat back and watched as I never know how to feel about all the buzz. I have cast my vote for my favourite bloggers so can sit back relax and watch all the drama unfold. It so funny, because everybody feels so differently about it, and has such differing opinions, but lets face it, who doesn’t like winning and achieving? But you just can’t take it personally not when you are pitching yourself against friends and colleagues. So good luck everyone, what will be will be.
If you would like to vote the links are here and here. Last year we were so lucky to get into a shortlist for family blogger and the final for school days, I was over the moon, so thank you so much for voting last year. And this year? Well, that’s totally up to you.
