My Weekly Round Up, Catching Up

It’s been a manic but fun couple of weeks and this week has seen me trying my best to catch up, so many bits and pieces I needed to organise. I have had lots of emails, housework, washing to catch up on grrr. But I feel I have finally got there at last, and am feeling a little more organised.

I have also had a little time to play about with my gorgeous new lens that the boys with a little help from Chris bought me for Mothers Day, I have wanted a 1.8 lens for a while now. I just love my camera but just felt the lens would help me achieve some of the aperture and portrait results I was struggling with, and omg it is incredible I love it.

I haven’t had loads of time to play with it, but just in terms of brighter photos it is really delivering. I love how it can make a subject pop, I used it when taking a photo of Jack  last week and was thrilled with the result. So have been practicing around the house on Joe and Toby, although I think they are all getting a bit bored of having a camera pointing at them ha ha.

I have also been practicing on flowers, these gorgeous roses were such a bargain from Lidl, costing £4 for 2 bunches and they are so beautiful, from now on I will be taking a weekly trip to buy my flowers from Lidl. There was a good selection of colours to choose from too, it just shows that you don’t have to spend the earth but can still get great quality.

I have had to edit these photos a little bit but nowhere like how I used to, learning to set the shot up in the camera has been such a revelation to me, and have a lens that can alter my aperture to 1.8 is making a huge difference on darker dull days.

Honestly if you were toying with the idea of doing a photography course I would say go for it, for me it has been so worth it. I may not be David Bailey, but I am becoming so much more confident with the camera, and for recording family memories is just the best thing ever.

I also got the chance to catch up with 3 of my great friends this week for lunch or dinner; it’s so great having a catch up.  And as busy as I seem to make myself, its wonderful to be able to have the time to be able to see friends, when I was teaching it was so much harder.  I honestly can’t believe how this last 6 months has panned out, I couldn’t have dreamt I would be so lucky this time a year ago. And who can believe it is Easter next week, where has this year gone? But Easter generally means spending time with friends, and I am so looking forward to next weekend when we will have a houseful and our great friends will be spending the weekend with us.

And lastly, awards season is on us, and the buzz and excitement has started in the blogging community as nominations open for 2 sets of awards. So far I have sat back and watched as I never know how to feel about all the buzz.  I have cast my vote for my favourite bloggers so can sit back relax and watch all the drama unfold. It so funny, because everybody feels so differently about it, and has such differing opinions, but lets face it, who doesn’t like winning and achieving? But you just can’t take it personally not when you are pitching yourself against friends and colleagues. So good luck everyone, what will be will be.

If you would like to vote the links are here and here. Last year we were so lucky to get into a shortlist for family blogger and the final for school days, I was over the moon, so thank you so much for voting last year. And this year? Well, that’s totally up to you.

A very productive week all round for you then. Those roses look beautiful, gorgeous photographs. I would like to take a course, but to be honest, I can’t quite fit it in now, but it’ll be on my to-do list one day! Glad you’re enjoying it so much x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

Thank you, yes its hard to fit it all in isn’t it? But it is an investment of my time I am so glad I took, although I am lucky that as our boys are older it makes it so much easier x

I love those roses – the colour is so delicate and lovely. I’ll have to check out Lidl! I’ve just signed up to a photography workshop, so I’m hoping that it encourages me to take my camera off auto mode. I’m not very technical, so worried it’ll all go over my head! #HappyDays

Gosh youve really got the hang of the photography haven’t you? The pics are great! Love the one of your doggy. I’m struggling with mine. I’ve been on a one day course and am currently doing an online course. All the technical stuff doesn’t come naturally to me sadly. I’m ok on composition but don’t get the rest! Love the way you introduced the awards. Very best of luck. You deserve to go all the way. X

Hi Sarah, I love the photo of your dog, so much hope in his eyes. I have only started out on the journey of learning how to use a camera properly and may one day do a photographic course (when time and money permit).

I can’t believe you bought those roses in Lidls! They look so perfect and pretty and what a bargain.

Catching up with friends is always nice and should be prescribed by Doctors as an antidepressant. Have a fab Easter next week.

    xx

Gorgeous photo of Toby. Your photography is coming on in leaps and bounds Sarah and I know you are absolutely loving it. You have definitely had a crazy few weeks. I think there is more hype for the blogging awards than the Oscars lol. I have always voted for my favourites in the past, and last year you did amazing Sarah and I am sure you will again this year xx

I’m sold! That lens is now on my birthday list. I really do love the one I have and haven’t given much thought to needing another but I’d quite like to have a play around with it and see the difference. Plus, I have about one thing on my birthday list and as I’m turning 40, I really need to add a few more 😉 xx

Your photos are beautiful! I’ve only recently started to pay more attention to my photography – I have an Olympus Pen , which I love!

Lidl is brilliant for flowers – I always buy mine from there. In fact that’s where I’m heading off to this morning once I’ve done the school run! Xxx

Oh Sarah those roses!! I adore my lens and use it for pretty much everything now – I just wish I had had it over the darker winter months as it really does bring in the light doesn’t it?! Love your attitude to the awards, it is so true. People really are getting their knickers in a twist but what will be will be. Thank you for sharing in #HappyDaysLinky x
