• Q Hop Day 1 , Forest Pines Hotel And Golf Resort, Lincolnshire

Day 1 of our Half Term Q Hop found us at the Forest Pines in North Lincolnshire. We decided to nip to the beach at Grimsby en route to Forest Pines for a winters walk, and trust me it was cold. I have already shared a little of what we got up to a Forest Pines in my daily postcard. But wanted to share more about the hotel.

We were greeted with the warmest of welcomes, and given a run down on what the hotel and the local area had to offer. This is quite a huge deal when arriving at a hotel in a location you are not familiar with, but Theresa on reception was very knowledgeable and able to give us a list of things to do locally.

Forest Pines does not have interconnecting rooms, so we were given two rooms next door to each other. At first on hearing this news I nearly fainted, I have never left the boys in a separate room before. Of course Chris and Jack at this point were rolling their eyes at me. And Jack rubbing his hands at the prospect of having his own room.

The reception staff were so understanding, and offered to put an extra bed in our room, but Jack had his heart set on having his own room,  at 15 and the fact that he was literally next door I had to trust him on this one. But we decided Joe would stay with us.

However please note, actually 1 room would have been fine for us; the rooms had 2 double beds.  If we had booked the hotel independently I would have most probably booked 1 room. This would have been more than comfortable as the rooms were very spacious, and the perfect size for the traveling family.

The styling of the rooms was beautiful, they were very modern yet very comfortable, and the bathrooms were just beautiful with the most unusual tiles.

Forest Pines is most definitely more of a mini resort than hotel; it has several dining options, a full spa, gym, and golf club. The pool and gym area seemed to be newly renovated, and was the perfect place to chill as a family. In fact Joe swam twice whilst he was there.

Because it was half term there was a family splash time where part of the pool is sectioned off for the children and giant footballs are thrown in. Joe spent ages playing water football with some other visiting children and had such a wonderful time, whilst I sat at the side on a heated bed reading.

As Forest Pines is a golf resort it also has a Golf/Sports Bar.  The Pines Bar provides a wonderful chilled out environment whilst offering constant sports commentary from sports events. There is also a pool table and table football.

I am not sure if all teens are wired the same, but Jack is in his element with the option of watching sport, playing pool and using his iPad on the hotel wi-fi. The Pines Bar also offers a delicious food and drinks menu. Chris and I were able to enjoy a glass of wine whist the boys happily played on table football.

There are several dining options at Forest Pines, but we decided to chill in the lounge bar. The Lounge Bar is such a chilled area with comfy sofas, table ice hockey situated in the nearby reception, and the option of board games. We decided set up camp for the evening in a comfy corner and have a family board game marathon. Its things like this you just do not get the time to do at home, we spent quite a few hours feeling very chilled, and marvelling at the lengths the boys will go to, to win a game.

The wonderful thing was, even though we had decided to not visit the restaurant, the lounge service was exceptional. The staff checked on us at interval to take orders for drinks, and food, and ensured we were thoroughly looked after.

Emma and the team ensured we felt comfortable and had everything we needed for the evening. In fact at bedtime the boys asked if the hotel had any hot chocolate powder to make a hot chocolate in their room and the chef arranged a wonderful hot chocolate tray, the boys were just thrilled.

I would 100% recommend Forest Pines for families, the hotels is absolutely perfectly maintained. The staff and service were exceptional, such friendly warm people.

The golf team was also wonderful, so warm and friendly and Mathew our instructor was fab. The views over the golf course were breathtaking. So although there is a lot to do in Lincolnshire we just loved chilling in the hotel and were sad to leave. Thank you Forest Pines for you wonderful hospitality.

Karen actually I found these rooms better for small families as you can all fit into one room, the rooms were large and could actually fit a single bed in too x

If Jack is anything like my teen I can just imagine thoughts of ‘yes a night being on the iPad’ having his own room. The more I read about Q hotels, the more I think we would love them as they seem so geared up for familys. x
