A Spooky Duvet Day And Doing Nothing

Today we woke up to pouring rain, torrential at times, typical the last day of the holidays and rain, rain, rain. Jack was off paintballing with a friend leaving Joe and I to enjoy the day together. We looked out of the window for a while wondering what on earth to do with ourselves. And then it came to us; we would do nothing, absolutely nothing.

You see it is very rare this happens in the Christie household, we always have somewhere to be. So today with no plan we would just chill. We decided to make use of a lovely little Halloween duvet day parcel Slumberdown had sent us earlier in the week, but first we needed a pumpkin. A Halloween afternoon is not the same without a pumpkin is it?

This is the first year I have been redundant in the pumpkin-carving department. It’s a sad day when you realise your children think they are far superior in the art of pumpkin crafting. Yes, Joe did a great job, but he had his own plan and my suggestions fell on deaf ears. My ideas just didn’t fit into the plan.

Once Joe was happy with his creatio we set to making ourselves a little lounge cocoon, chose a spooky Halloween family film and prepared our snacks. It’s a sure sign that you are too busy at time when you children are excited about chilling out with you, I think this is an area we need to work on, setting aside family time with no shopping, days out, and football just do nothing. Because for Joe and I, today nothing turned out to be something. Something we both thoroughly enjoyed, no interruptions, deadlines just us enjoying family time.

Well I say just us we did have one intruder. You see as soon as Toby saw the fluffy white duvet and popcorn he was hell-bent on getting in on the action. You would think with all that fur he would avoid getting to warm but he was right in the middle snuggle up with us and in fact determined to get the lions share of the duvet.

But what a perfect way to spend a rainy autumn day, it was wonderful and something we will do again very soon.

I love days like this, snuggling up under duvets to do nothing but keep each other company. Apart from carve our pumpkins, which the kids have done themselves too, we haven’t done much this week at all, which has been lovely to recharge our batteries. xxx

Would you believe we have never carved a pumpkin with the children….. poor parenting eh. We really must do it next year. It sounds like you had a wonderful day with Joe. I agree that we spend too much time running around sometimes, and just doing nothing can be the bestest of days. Love that Toby has to get in on the action too xx
