5 Steps to Positive Thinking

I like to think I am quite a positive person, most of the time I see the positive happy side of life. I can turn most situations around to a positive. Of course there are things in life that no matter hard I try I can’t find the positives in, such as teaching inspections, as soon as I think of that dreaded word it just puts a knot in my stomach. It’s awful how a word can affect you in such a negative manner, make you want to run for the hills.

So when Joe Blog asked me to work with them on the Healthy Minds project I thought hey why not, if I can work out a strategy to deal with this then that has to be good. You see I love my job but one little thing can have such a huge impact on the way you feel, can almost cloud your view a little.

So I thought I would share my top 5 tips for staying positive in life. What makes me smile and keeps me focused.

My Family, looking at them, watching them always makes me focus, smile and remember what is important, and why you are doing these things.

Remember that; remember they are just doing their job. Look at what else is going on in the world, yes they may be loads of work to do but there is always somebody worse off.

Think Positive, see yourself winning, doing well, or it all being over. Plan a celebration once it is over.

Be reflective, take yourself back to how you felt last time, I remember thinking that was not that bad. You see one horrific experience has scarred me, affected and clouded how I see the whole experience. Changed something that could be positive into a negative.

In fact just writing this has helped hugely as I have realised actually it is not that bad. Yes, I had one traumatic experience that I will never ever get over. But all the others have in fact in reflection been fine.

This is a really interesting post Sarah, particularly because you mention ‘Thinking Postively’. My daughter mentioned going into her piano exam last week looking and acting confidently as she thought that might help here and it did! She said she was pleased with her performance and it worked 🙂 I know people visualise themselves winning, or collecting a trophy etc. I could never quite see it myself but it’s starting to make sense now!

Great tips Sarah and the one that hit a chord for me was ‘perspective’. I am terrible at worrying about little minor things. Things that I have no control over, and I am really going to work at putting silly little things into perspective. As you said there is a lot more going on in the world. Thank you xx
