My Light and Bright Entrance Hall

My Light and bright entrance hall was not always this way. We have been living in our Home for 4, 1/2 years now, when we moved in we thought I was all done up and ready to live in, the day we moved in nearly every kitchen cupboard door fell off in our hands, we then realised this was not the case. As a result we have spent the last  4, 1/2 years changing layouts, decorating and gardening. And still we are only half way through.

Our hallway was awful it had a long corridor wrapped around an office, with no windows (The downstairs of our house is wrapped around the hall). This is all well and good unless you live with boys, who saw the office as a dumbing ground, as an alternative to putting things away.  I spent hours every week emptying the office off things I have previously requested to be put in rooms and toy cupboards. The office, dumping ground had to go.
It took 1, 1/2 years! Aghh ! We started with great intentions and knocked the office walls down, change our steep ladder stairs to turning stairs making them much safer. But then came the biggest hurdle, getting a plasterer, if I had a pound for every plasterer who did not turn up, I would be sat on a Caribbean cruise as I write. It was a nightmare so many agreed to come and look at the job but just never arrived. Eventually we got one, I was so excited when the plasterer finally arrived I think I scared him with my enthusiasm. I could not believe I had a plasterer in my house.

Thank goodness. My Hall is no longer a building site but an entrance to our home. We have painted light grey and white to compensate for having no windows. To say we have no windows it looks so much lighter and brighter.

I choose a striped carpet as with all the will in the world, the 4 men in my life, Chris the Boys and Toby are all messy and never take shoes off or wipe their muddy paws.
One of my favourite things is my glass duck egg blue door knobs. They are so pretty, Chris and I bought them last summer on a weekend away in London, we got them in Selfridges, I loved them as soon as I saw them and knew they were perfect for the hallway. They were not expensive at £7.50 each, every time I look at them I think of our lovely weekend.

That carpet!!! Oh my, I love it! Many, many years ago when I bought my very first house, I had a scrap book of all the things that I wanted to buy (but couldn’t afford) and I had a cut out of very similar carpet from Brintons. I’m still coveting it but haven’t got round to it yet. One day! I love the little knobs that you’ve chosen too. So pretty. Duck egg blue is one of my favourite colours. It pops up a lot in my house.

wow I can’t believe how light it looks considering there are no windows! I love the striped carpet and the chair. Its so difficult to keep a busy hallway under control! Yours looks lovely, I’m sure it helps you to feel motivated to finish the rest of the house now. Tracy x

Sarah it is SO stunning! Love the little touches. I especially love the hooks with the hearts on. So pretty. That stair carpet is just fab, and so practical (as you say). I can’t believe how bright it all looks! My hall is so tiny and dark. It’s a bit of a dumping ground too. That colour blue is so chic. Thanks very much for linking up – very much appreciated. You’ve made a great job of it. Btw I know exactly what you mean about the men in your life dumping stuff where it doesn’t belong. Is there a solution to this? If there is I want to know! 🙂

What an absolutely GORGEOUS hallway!!! That’s one thing we’re lacking in this house. We had a HUGE one in our first property and a tiny little vestibule in this!

I absolutely LOVE what you’ve done 🙂 Love the carpet especially. What a lovely welcoming space to see when you first come in! Thanks so much for linking up with #HomeEtc x
