A Walk On The Beach At St Anne’s

Share

Yesterday we sat in bed the rain hitting the windows, wondering where the blooming hell summer had got to. It’s almost as if the bad weather syncs with holiday time? As soon as the School bell rings for the summer, the rain descends.

The thing is we can’t just wait for the sun to shine all throughout summer holidays! It’s the one thing we long for, long hot summers and beach walks.

But when it rains the kids still want to be entertained. We want them to have a great summer. There is a lot to be said for being prepared with rainy day activities.

But this year hasn’t been all bad so far; yes you look at the forecast and its rain, rain, rain. However in reality there are spells on sunshine in most days. Giving a little time to get out and enjoy the school holidays. It’s just how you spend that precious time when the sun shines.

A great tip is to check the weather of local towns, it may be raining at home, but the sun may be shining 30 minutes away. And this is exactly what happened yesterday, we had rain forecast for the whole day. Yet in St Anne’s the sun was shining.

So we decided to pack the car up with wellies and rain coats and head to the beach for a long walk. I have to say Toby is not a fan of car journeys and this puts me off taking him along for trips like this. But with the promise of a beach to run on we decided to strap him up in the back seat and I would sit with him to keep him calm.

We arrived at St Anne’s at around 11am. The sun was shining as promised. Yes, it was windy, but quite warm and the beach was deserted.

The tide was low and the sea seemed so far out. We decided to see how far and set off. There is something special about family walks on deserted beaches. And as Joe ran in the sand dunes, paddled in pools of water and collected shells, Toby ran as fast as his little legs would carry him, enjoying the tranquillity of the beach.

It took a good 40 minutes to get to the sea; it was just over a mile out. But the beauty of this was those uninterrupted views that you could stand and watch forever. However traveling anywhere with tweens means hunger is never far away. And after walking over 2 miles to the sea and back Joe was starving, and of course there is only one thing to eat at the beach. So we headed off for chips before setting off back home with a very tired Toby.

Sometimes it is easy to just stay at home and chill, when in reality making that effort to get out makes for a perfect day.

  1. Ah I love St Annes and it’s so true that you check the weather for home and think pah rain again and just stay in lazing around. Did you manage to see the beach huts that are further along the beach ? x

  3. Oh Sarah what a gorgeous post, I share your tip on checking local town weather reports as often it is so different. We live for beach trips, we haven’t been to St Anne’s since March and are definitely overdue a trip. Your photo’s are beautiful and how gorgeous is that blue sky. The boys often walk out to the sea, I am always amazed by how far out it is, I would love to see it closer in. Thanks so much for joining in with #MyFamilyAdventures x x
