Home Style Trends, Gold Is The New Black

Share

Do you remember the days of old, when gold was in fashion and everybody loved Dallas? And then like all great trends they fade away and become an embarrassing part of history. Something you look back at and wince. And here’s the great thing about being in your 40s you realise things do come back around.

I remember my mum telling me to be careful which clothes I throw out as they always come back. And me rolling my eyes, certain that leather jackets could never be revived. Ok, the cool kids wear faux these days, but the style is surprisingly similar. The look is very much back. I laugh now when the boys embrace a new trend that is nothing but a re-invention of a classic. Yet, they own it; feel like their generation is pioneering new trends. In a way it is, because reinvention is what makes the world go round.

And here we again in the midst of a style regeneration, with an oldie but goody creeping back into our lives and our homes.  Because gold is back folks and is looking oh so stylish. Ready to mix with the trends and blend into modern life. At first I may have raised an eyebrow. Wondered just how it was able to fit in with modern living and trends to keep it cool and stylish. My memories of gold were not so pretty, more OTT and garish.

But gold you have not let me down. I brought you into a home of plain walls, chrome and wood and you blended right in there.

You even freshened the place up a bit. Looking quite frankly like the ever so cool, new kid on the block. Gone are my memories of the 80s, of golden lions and scroll legs, now I see how you can add that understated spark of bling. I love how you rock urban in a way I never thought possible. Who knew gold and industrial was a match made in interior heaven. And how rather than look bold and bright you blend into your surroundings ever so casually.

If I had concerns about introducing you into the home, they were all totally unfounded.

Because gold, you have reinvented yourself in a fresh and exciting way that has left me wanting more gold in our home. Don’t roll your eyes at me, I know how it went in the 80s I was there, how everyone got gold giddy and before we knew it the national grid was seeing record losses. On the plus side, you induced the meteoric rise of sunglasses, left the world a legacy. And now you return all muted and fresh. And yes we are ready.  Your timing is impeccable. Welcome back my friend.

  2. That lamp is gorgeous and goes perfectly with your room. I often think that with the gold and copper trend, my nan’s house would be bang on trend now. Ok maybe not the copper and brass ornaments that used to hang from the walls, but everything else would now be considered ‘trendy’. It’s definitely funny how trends and fashion keep rolling back around x

  3. I’ve never been a huge fan of gold – opting for silver – but i went to H&M home this week and it was everywhere. And I loved it. I think I might have been swayed!

  4. I am so glad it is back, I have my Grandmas old light that has a foot button. I remember pressing this foot button over and over again when I was a little girl. So I had it when she passed away. It never really fitted my room style, but now gold is back I am fitting my room around it! Making it shine out now, rather than shoved in the corner. I love your little side table, it looks super smart.
