Decorating The Christmas Tree With Homebase

It is nearly Christmas and we have finally finished getting the house all trimmed up and ready for the big day.

This is always an event in the Christie household. And one of my favourite days of the year, mulled wine, Christmas movies and tree building is what family time is all about isn’t it?

Jack decided to stay out-of-the-way this year; I suppose that is a sign of the times. It is probably not very cool to decorate a Christmas tree when you are 16. But rather than mope Joe and I embraced this and took the opportunity to have full artistic license, whilst Chris took charge of the roast dinner.

Joe has been itching to put the tree up and decorate it ever since our recent trip to Homebase where we not only purchased a new tree, but also a whole new set of decorations. You see, I quickly learned that glass would not work with 2 boys. When the boys were small we gradually replaced our decorations with plastic ones. They were nice but not as pretty as sparkly glass ones, but needs must. When you have a tree climber amongst you, you have to adapt to suit.

Fortunately now the boys are older and the tree is quite safe from tree climbing toddlers. And I felt it was time to decorate the tree how I want. Feeling that I can now spend more on beautiful glass baubles safe in the knowledge they will survive the festive period.

Armed with our new purchases we set to decorating and making our tree look gorgeous.

Joe and I working as a team to get the tree looking perfect and ready for Santa. The difference with our new tree is that is it pre-lit. I had no idea that you can get lights that you can choose your colour between white and multicoloured and a choice of effects, twinkling, flashing and static.

This is just too much choice when you are 11. But after much deliberation Joe plumped for multi coloured twinkling. I am definitely more of a white twinkle light kind of gal. And may have groaned at Joe’s choice. But managed to  convince him that white is the way forward. But whenever he is in the lounge alone the tree miraculously switches back to multi coloured!

However I will swap him changing the light colours for attempting the climb the tree any day. It’s just not funny when you daren’t leave your older in the lounge for the fear that when you return he will be clinging to the top of the tree, it search of chocolate.  The tree slumped against the wall. And it happened many times, until tree chocolate were declared illegal in the Christie household.

  2. These pictures are gorgeous Sarah, you’ve got some beautiful new decorations!! Being the only girl I bet it’s good to get some pink in the house when you can ; )

Our tree was a total mismatch of colours and themes this year but the girls loved decorating so I just went with it. Like you though I like to make a big event of it with popcorn and christmas music. I hope Jack wasn’t too old (and cool) for some of your other Christmas traditions.

Thank you for supporting My Captured Moment for the past two years. I love your blog Sarah and am so proud to call you my friend xxx
