6 Great Things To Do In Manchester This Christmas

Share

After a blissful couple of days in Germany I am starting to feel a little festive, I say a little because I am not organised at all. I think it is because I have learnt over the years that actually it can be done in a day. I don’t need to start in October. But still there is that nagging anxiety at the back of my mind that I haven’t started preparations. Even though I know it WILL get it done. It’s more important to enjoy the season and the festivities, throw yourself into family time and chilling.

We are so lucky to live not far from Manchester and have many festive activities on our doorstep. Offering the best of both worlds, the peace of the countryside on our doorstep and the buzz of the city a train ride away.

I have been having a bit of a mooch checking out what festive activities are going on in Manchester, and have come up with 6 great things to do in Manchester this Christmas.

Check out the Christmas Markets

The Manchester Christmas Markets have become famous in the North. And the atmosphere is incredible. Full of festive stalls selling mulled wine, gorgeous decorations and oooh the food. A particular favourite of mine is the pulled pork rolls with apple omg they are so good. Check out Katie’s great post about the Markets to get a feel for the festivities.

Drink Mulled Wine in Teepee at the Oast House at Spinning Fields

Spinning Fields is my favourite area of Manchester. It is such a cool area with an abundance of cocktail bars. The Oast House brings a festive Teepee to Manchester every Christmas, full of sparkly lights and open fires that leaves you feeling and warm and cozy inside. And the lunch is delicious. Whilst you are there I would also recommend nipping over to the Alchemist for a Lavender Daiquiri it really is the best cocktail in the world.

Visit Manchester City for a Festive Tour

For the football fans a festive trip to Manchester City Etihad Stadium for the Santa Vs Elves tour . It is a fab way to spend and afternoon. We visited last week and had a wonderful afternoon, emerged in all things Manchester City. And even for the non-football fan Etihad is a fascinating stadium.

Check Out Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland promises to be the best indoor theme park in the UK this year. With over 50 rides and attractions and a beach! Also a special appearance from Basil Brush, a mini panto, circus and a chance to visit the big man himself. Winter Wonderland will be at Event City from the 10th December to the 1st January.

See Santa in a real festive wonderland, with real snow

With over 100 tonnes of real freshly laid snow beneath your feet, Chill Factore is inviting families to take a trip down a magical Christmas path, surrounded by real glistening Christmas trees and twinkling lights into the UK’s only Santa’s Grotto on real snow. And then after throw a snowball or two, or play in the snow park, you can’t get more festive than snow.

See A Panto

This year’s all-star dazzling family pantomime at the Opera House is Aladdin. Starring Loose Womens, Sherrie Hewson  as the Genie of the Ring. Manchester’s best-loved actors John Thomson stars as the evil Abanazer. Pop star Ben Adams plays Aladdin with Opera House regular and one of the best Dames in the business Eric Potts playing the long-suffering Widow Twankey. If you love Panto this is a must.

No matter what your taste there are festive activities to suit everyone, And lets not forget all the shops, museums, galleries and restaurants making Manchester a great choice for a day in the city this winter.

  1. It was great seeing you last night at Winter Wonderland, what a fab evening for us and the kids. We haven’t been to the Manchester markets this year as we went to Birmingham for a change. But I am sure we will be back next year. Katie randomly said the other day she wants to go to the Chill Factore after Christmas. Manchester definitely has great things going on x
