We are so lucky to live a train or bus ride away from Manchester. It is the coolest of cities with the best shops, and great selection of museums. It’s the sort of place that you take into your heart. It has distinct vibes at different times of year and during different events. Yet you always leave wanting more.
When you are heading to a city for the first time it can be a little overwhelming. What to do, where to stay and sometimes where to eat lies at the bottom of your list. And the choice in Manchester is huge, there are so many dining options and something to suit evert taste and budget.
I have compiled a list of 5 great places to eat in Manchester. Places that offer not only great value, but great food and service and are a bit unique. These are all places I would eat when out with the family, with the girls or a night out with hubby.
Vapiano is a self-service restaurant, but not a buffet restaurant.
When you arrive at Vapiano you register and get issued a credit card each. You choose your table and like any restaurant get offered drinks which are served via waiter service.
Here is where it is so different. You choose your meal from your menu, then order yourself from the correct counter and swipe your card to add it too your bill. But unlike a buffet restaurant your meal is then freshly prepared and cooked in front of you. The great thing is you can add to your meal. I had a pasta dish with extra salmon and no pepper. And you know it is exactly as ordered and tasted fantastic.
It’s a novel concept but one that really worked for our family. The boys loved ordering and choosing their own meal. We could have done it for them but they wanted that level of independence and Vapiano allowed that freedom to do so.
Jamie’s Italian is situated in an old bank on King Street
Every aspect of our service from the way we were greeted as we entered, to the service offered by Rachael our extremely friendly and patient hostess was exceptional. The team is friendly and helpful and the whole vibe of Jamie’s Italian is cool. And the food is great.
As well as the fab food the relaxed vibe is wonderful, we never once felt rushed but were able to chill out and chat over our dinner and between courses, without feeling rushed.
And if there was ever a building to get giddy about it’s this one, it is stunning. The design of the restaurant has been sympathetic of the heritage of 100 King Street and maintained many of the original features, including many framed shots of the bank in its previous life.
The whole vibe of Cabana Brasil is Brazilian Street cool.
The theming is just incredible, you really don’t know where to look first. The colours are bright with lots of raw materials, seats covered in recycled jeans and cages instead of booths. I am such a visual person and the only way I can describe it is as a feast for the eyes, so many beautiful bright colours. The theming would fit right in on Universal City walk, creating a feeling of being in Brazil in a perfect world.
Cabana Brasil really is a great place to eat in Manchester City Centre, it offers something a little different in not only the tasty food but the whole vibe and style of the restaurant it takes themed restaurants to a whole new level, and with a reasonable priced menu it is such a great choice and somewhere we will eat again.
Turtle Bay is the most wonderful Jamaican Jerk Restaurant with a great vibe.
The atmosphere at Turtle Bay is just electric, the styling is colourful and has the Jamaican vibe just perfect. Jamaican vibe is fantastic with all your favourite Jamaican tunes and a decor that is just incredible. The food was fab, reasonably priced great tasting food, and excellent friendly service.
The menu was also varied offering lots of choices to suit all tastes. Its one of those restaurants you feel like you are at the best party ever, and the food was so tasty. And don’t get me started on the cocktails.
Artisan Manchester is a cool restaurant with an industrial feel.
The very cool and trendy Artisan bar and restaurant in located in Manchester’s Spinningfields. It’s the weirdest yet coolest restaurant. Spinning fields is known for its themed dining spaces, it must be so hard to come with something new and different. And for me the Artisan fits in perfectly. It is an industrial space, with exposed joists and brick making the foundations of the unique decor.
Everything about it is so chilled, yet welcoming. The Menu has a great selection and I have struggled choosing every time. It’s not often there is so much I like the look of on a menu, but I am going to have to keep going back to work my way though all the tasty food. There is also a set menu option and a kid’s menu.
The Artisan is such a great option, it is friendly yet cool and chilled. The food and service are great and not at all overpriced.
