Visiting Elvis And Room To Grow Bedding

It’s funny how sometimes one conversation leads to another. And how a conversation about visiting Elvis, or more visiting Graceland, can lead to buying Joe new room to grow bedding. But that is exactly how it happened.

I am painfully aware that our family travel time is on borrowed time. Jack is 16 this year arghh, weeps. He will always be welcome on family holidays, and I cannot ever imagine myself asking him to pay. He will always be part of the Christie travel crew. He will so roll his eyes at that!

If you want to see me create my projects, follow me on Tik Tok and Instagram.

But I am also a realist. Next year may well be the last time for a while he chooses a family holiday over a lads holiday. For a few years at least, it makes me want to lock him up, not let him out ever again. He is growing up, we are so grateful of that. But sometimes you want to slow down the clock a little bit.

So, I have a plan, a big Christie adventure for our last family holiday. Not ever, hopefully not the last. He may decide that actually, he wants to travel with us one or two more years after that, and that would be wonderful.

So over dinner a couple of weeks ago we were discussing ideas, the boys are both desperate to do another cruise. But they are quite specific, they want to do a Royal Caribbean Cruise out of Galveston Texas. Ever since we overheard a funny conversation on our last cruise, it has become a family joke. One that has found its way onto the Christie family travel wish list.

They want to visit Dallas and catch a game of American Football. We decided a mini road trip would be great. I have  always wanted to visit Graceland so we could start from Memphis. God I think I will weep if I ever get there. None of it is cast in stone, but a road trip with the promise of a week chilling on a cruise after sounds amazing.

As we researched, Joe decided in preparation he would like a prep style bedroom. The all American Teen Style, I am sure it is the prospect of watching a real live game of American Football that got him thinking. Anyhow, we started searching and found this fab set at Room to Grow.

It is difficult personalizing a small room. Joe’s room is a blank canvas, so the style and colour of his bedding, which pretty much dominates his room sets the theme. I wanted to create some lettering to brighten up his chalkboard, we decided his name was the way forward and between us, we painted and decoupaged wooden letters that we picked up from a craft store. I then created hanging tags to finish the look.

Joe loves his new look room. And choosing  a neutral background when we decorated has really payed off. Thus allowing us to quickly revamp and change the style and look of the room easily. I remember being Joe’s age, when getting new bedding and a room re vamp felt like such a huge deal. And apart from a mishap with a world cup poster and lump of blue tac that took some paint work off, it was a quick and easy turn around. Next stop Texas research; I suspect there will be a bit more planning involved there.

  1. Ahhh no! I cannot imagine him not being in your holiday photos!! But you have to let them go on their own adventures I guess. I remember not wanting to go to Greece with my family when I was 16…was I mad??!! Lovely room and what a super space 🙂 Thanks for linking – Jess xx
