Perfect Low Fat Burgers

What is going on with the British weather? Snow, sun, rain, sun, snow, and sun it just can’t make its mind up. Anyhow I have it on good authority that a heat wave is coming; we are all going to be spending small fortunes on sun cream, embracing outdoor living and BBQing all summer long, hoorah. I cannot wait.

One thing I have learnt in life, is that it is all in the preparation, never be the one in the supermarket at 2pm on a Sunday with the last bag of charcoal, and frozen burgers because the fresh ones have sold out, be ready.

If you want to see me create my projects, follow me on Tik Tok and Instagram.

So in preparation for said heat wave and a lazy long Father’s Day, enjoying the hot sunshine and a delicious well-planned BBQ we had a little dry run this week and had a nearly BBQ and made my perfect low fat slimming world burgers

Once Chris had our swanky new BBQ all built and ready, we decided as the sun was shining we would christen the BBQ for our first al fresco dinner. I headed off to our local butchers for some chicken kebabs and lean mince to make my own recipe low-fat burgers. The thing I love about homemade is that you have the ultimate control over exactly what is in them, you know the mince is lean, and they honestly taste so much better than pre made.

Low Fat Burgers

Slimming world friendly burgers perfect for BBQs and burger nights, these tasty burgers are low fat and taste great.

Ingredients

  • 500 g extra lean mince
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1 finely chopped red onion
  • 1 pinch of Salt
  • 1 pinch of Pepper
  • 2 pinches of paprika
  • A Burger Press

Instructions

  1. Mix all of the ingredients together to bind
  2. Separate into 4 equal portions
  3. Put into the Burger Press one at a time and press until compacted
  4. Wrap in greaseproof paper and put in the fridge for half an hour
  5. Cook on the BBQ and serve with cheese and bacon with all the fat trimmed off on a brown roll, and healthy potato wedges.

When we were all prepared and the BBQ was roaring, Joe who loves helping out with cooking donned his apron and we started cooking. He loves being involved when it comes to cooking and I would say is much more of a savory chef, however needs close monitoring, especially on in a BBQ situation. So Chris and I were always stood right by him nervously watching every move, yet allowing him that little bit of trust that means so much to him, to enable him to cook a family dinner.

It was all going so well until the wind blew up, and whilst we were stood next to the BBQ we were fine but as soon as we moved away you feel that nip in the air. We decided to eat inside, thus resulting in a half BBQ, alfresco cooking but not quite dining. Joe watching on proudly at us all enjoying his cooking, and looking forward to Father’s Day when he has a full BBQ menu planned.

It has become a tradition for us to enjoy Father’s Day at home, usually the weather is great and we get to chill over a glass of wine and BBQ at home rather than battling crowds for a meal out. And that is exactly where we will be this year, so come on weather we know the heat wave is on its way, just please hurry up.

  3. Hi Sarah, being a South African, my husband was born to barbecue and would love a super posh one like yours. We have two barbecues one is a recycled old beer barrel and the other an old wheel barrow , no expense spared there!

Homemade burgers are the best and bacon adds a little added taste.

  4. OOhh Sarah that BBQ looks lovely and the burgers sounds and look amazing. I’m definitely going to be trying them very soon (well as soon as the warm weather makes a return). I love that Joe is so keen to help and he looks so cute in his apron, although I’m sure he won’t appreciate that description – ha ha ha.

Thank you so much for linking up to #MyCapturedMoment, I hope you can join in again tomorrow xxx
