The Diabetes UK London Bridge Challenge, My Captured Moment

Share

For this weeks my captured moment, I am capturing a whole day.

I have kept meaning to share this picture diary of our London Bridge Challenge with Diabetes UK. It was an incredible day; the weather was well and truly on our side. We had all trekked done to London to raise money for a charity that is not only very close to our heart, but a huge part of our lives.

I would have never believed that when Jack was diagnosed 5 years ago, we would have been taking part in such a huge event. And that I would have my diabetic child walk 10 miles across London covering 13 bridges. (We in fact did many miles more door to door)

I remember a couple of months ago on Downton Abbey diabetes was mentioned as a death sentence. At the time the statement shook me to the bone. Had our beautiful son been born in another era, without our wonderful NHS and charities like Diabetes UK who pioneer funding and research, then the prognosis would not have been as good.

So thank god for medical development and these wonderful people who are so committed to improving the health and quality of life of people in the UK. Thanks goodness we do not need insurance to ensure Jack gets his everlasting stream of maintaining saving daily medication.

I don’t intend to write reams for this post as I hope the pictures speak for themselves, our little family doing our bit for a wonderful cause, in a beautiful city.

And would you believe? I think I have mentioned this before but it still baffles me; our diabetic child breezed through the day, not a problem. Loved taking in the sights of London and enjoyed every minute. Whilst Joe developed a last minute hamstring injury, this caused him to sulk for 8 bridges. He very nearly got thrown off of bridge 3! And by bridge 5 we were all ignoring his sulking. However he quickly recovered at bridge 8 when he needed to run for the ice cream van, the power off ice cream hey?

But I do question if I expected too much of him at 10, maybe our expectations were too high. Next year the boys may stay at home and co-ordinate tweets for us whilst we concentrate on the walking.

But it was a wonderful day, and a great way to raise much-needed funds and awareness for a vital cause

And what a gorgeous day you had – particularly love that snap of the carousel… and I’m super impressed that a 10 year old managed all that too xx
