A Family Break At Slaley Hall Q Lodges

Share

At half term we spent the most blissful long weekend at the very beautiful Q Lodges Slaley Hall Northumberland. As a family we love lodge breaks but this was our first ever visit to Q Lodges, I really did not know what to expect. We have had some wonderful experiences with Q Hotels, but this was so different in every way.

I have already talked about the Lodge, but the lodge really is the tip of the iceberg. Slaley Hall is the most beautiful estate with so much to see and do. There are a good selection of dining options, activities and nature walks to suit the whole family. In fact the boys were just in their element a Q Lodges it really is the perfect location for the active sporty family, yet offers spa treatments and luxury to make the break feel extra special.

For dining you have the choice of nipping up to the main house in your golf buggy and visiting the wonderful Hadrian’s Brasserie, Duke’s Grill, The Claret Jug or The 19th Bar. We dined at Hadrian’s and The Claret Jug.

Hadrian’s is a large Brasserie, which serves a delicious choice of meals. The service was great and the team interacted well with the customers to make the service more personal. We had a wonderful evening dining in Hadrian’s, the staff helped Jack work out his carbs no problem, and although this is a large restaurant it felt friendly and welcoming.

The Claret Jug is different altogether and serves a choice of home-inspired food. The Claret Jug is part of the golf complex and also acts as a sort of sports bar. When I first walked in the rugby was on the large T.V and my heart sank, but let me tell you I loved it in there. As far as sports bars go it is very plush and well designed and the atmosphere is fantastic.

It is not a loud bouncy environment like I would have imagined, but a super friendly and quite cool relaxed atmosphere. I have to say this is an awful lot to do with the team they were just wonderful. You could just see the staff took genuine pride in the place. Rachel looked after us during our meal and was wonderful with Jack and organising his portion sizes.

We spent a wonderful hour making cocktails in the 19th Bar with Anthony this was not something I would have ever considered doing as a family, but the boys had a wonderful time mixing their own non alcoholic cocktails. In fact Joe has taken to drinking Shirley Temple’s since that day. It is most definitely an activity I would book for us all again as it was so much fun, we all got to make our own cocktail, mine was champagne based Mmmm, and we laughed so much.

If you don’t feel like going out you of course have the option of cooking a meal in your lodge, we did this on the first night. Well, I say we; Chris, the boys made me a glass of wine and sent me from the kitchen whilst they rustled up dinner between them. They clearly had a great time as I could hear them all howling with laughter as they cooked. And if you don’t feel like cooking you can also order a takeaway from the main house, Q Lodges have it all covered.

In terms of activities there is so much to do, on check in you receive an activity menu, which offers daily golf sessions, fitness classes, a family quiz. There is a full spa, which I paid a little visit for a full body massage (well it would be rude not to wouldn’t it?) The spa relaxation lounge is just a haven of tranquility I wish I could have taken some photos. The spa complex also has a great pool; it is more of a grotto style with different levels, a slide and waterfalls, perfect for spa and family sessions.

The golf club offers the opportunity to practice in the driving range, this is an activity the boys love, and we were also lucky enough to have a lesson with Steve the on site golf pro. I must say he was so patient with me ha ha. Unfortunately for me I live with 3 golf naturals, they don’t play that often but always thrash me every time, and are hugely competitive with it.

Hall also have All Out Adventures on site; who offer a great range of activities to include, Quad Biking for all the family, 4×4 Off Road Driving and 4×4 Demonstration, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Segway’s and Archery to name a few. All activities to get the Christie boys giddy with excitement.

We took part in the Quad Bike Safari, I will not lie I was terrified, hence no photos. There was no way on earth I was removing my tightly gripped hands of the handlebars. It took us through the forest, over hills, through huge puddles (more like small rivers) And I did it, hoorah I felt so proud of myself and to say I was so frightened I had the most wonderful experience. And I smiled all the way round on our hour-long trip, as I just knew the boys were having the time of their lives.

My goodness I have kept trying to condense this but how can you fit such an incredible weekend into 600 words, its impossible. Thank you so much Q Lodges for the most wonderful stay, as we drove down to sweeping driveway to leave the boys were begging to come back. And we loved it so much we are currently looking at when we can squeeze our next trip in.

  1. This sounds such a perfect break for all the family, especially if you have older children. I know Morgan would love the Quad Biking, and the cocktail making as a family sounds amazing. I never thought you could do this with the kids. I love that you have your own space in your lodge, but everything is on hand in the hotel should you need it. I need to book a break there NOW. Love the video too xx

  2. This looks like the most amazing weekend away. The perfect combination of luxury and the comforts of home. And there looks like those so much to do. I love the idea of the spa. That sounds fantastic. A fab review and a fab video lovely. I laughed at the scene of you chasing the bunny with your golf buggy. Hugs Mrs H xxxx

  3. Slaley Hall is around 40 minutes for me but I must admit is is somewhere I have never visited. I do remember dropping my mum off for a spa day years ago though and remembering how much it felt like you were in the middle of the countryside. Love the wide range of activities on offer and well done for joining in with the quad safari!
