I want to share an amazing young lady with you all. I have known Shannon since she was 8 years old. We are friends of her Mum and Dad who are lovely people so it is hardly surprising she has turned into such an amazing young lady.
Anyway, I bumped into Shannon last week whilst I was walking Toby and once I got over the shock that Shannon was driving a car. To which she pointed out she is 19 ha ha. I had recently seen Shannon on face book raising money for charity and we got chatting about what she was up to and wow. Some people are so amazing aren’t they? I mean Shannon is a student and should be worrying about socialising and what to wear. Which I am sure she is, but Shannon is such an incredible young lady that she is also helping to raise money for others.
Shannon and her friends are exactly the sort of people I am proud to talk about on my blog, people who make a difference in life. People who absolutely prove the youth of our country are truly something to be proud of.
Shannon agreed to complete some questions for me, and please anyone who agrees with that she is a wonderful young woman please even if it’s only £1. Donate to Shannon’s every day heroes page.
Shannon please tell everyone a little about yourself?
My name is Shannon Kirk and I am a 19-year-old, 2nd year at Newcastle University studying History and Sociology. I have done many fundraising activities in the past mainly through running and family events.
What exactly are you planning Shannon?
Through the university a student organisation ‘choose a challenge’ provided me and around 30 other Newcastle students with the opportunity to go on a once in a lifetime trip on a 6-day trek up along the Inka trail up to Machu Picchu. Along with the trek, which will be a huge challenge in itself, my challenge is to raise £2990.00 for charity.
Which Charity have you chosen?
The charity is Worldwide Cancer Research, who raises money for breakthrough cancer research without national boundaries or restrictions.
Why is that charity in particular close to your heart?
Worldwide Cancer Research has a lot of personal connections for me, as it does with many people, I have had 3 family members beat cancer and many members of my family, including my dad, have had precancerous lesions removed, this keeps cancer in the forefront of my mind. Many of my fundraising activities in the past have been for my local hospice now it seems time to stretch further away from home.
How do intend to raise some of these funds?
My fundraising ideas are: the national 3 peaks, Burnley 10k, car boot sales, Park Hill Primary non-school uniform day, and bag packs at local supermarkets and donations from very kind individuals.
The National 3 Peaks – climbing the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in under 24 hours (Including driving in between the mountains) – Of which I will be doing alongside some of my colleagues at Denwa Communications
- Snowdon, in Wales (1085m)
- Scafell Pike, in England (978m)
- Ben Nevis, in Scotland (1344m)
I hope you agree Shannon is an inspirational young Lady and one that is prepared to go that extra mile to help others. And if you want to help her out, please click the image link below.
