Being Treated Like Royalty at The Queens

Share

I thought long and hard about this heading, it sounds a little corny doesn’t it. I have tried to think of another fitting title but I can’t argue with facts can I? So the title stays, and becomes less cheesy and more a statement of truth. We loved our stay at the Queens Hotel Leeds. They truly made us feel so special.

Let me start with our welcome, I was a little stressed about finding the Queens and parking.  I had never been to Leeds before and although Chris has, he didn’t know the City well. The great thing about the Queens is you don’t have to worry about parking as they have concierge parking. And trust me when you have two hungry kids in the car this is a godsend. We were able to pull up outside the Queens, unload and drop the keys off to reception. And for £15.99, I thought this was a mega bargain and worth every penny.

We were welcomed at the reception by the Queens general manager Jacquie and David, and a lovely lady whose name I didn’t get (sorry) Meeting Jacquie was like meeting an old friend as we had been tweeting on the run up to our visit.  I had tweeted Jacquie prior to our visit, as I had been concerned about Jacks sugar levels as we were collecting the boys from school and traveling straight to Leeds. The chef had very kindly arranged some snacks for our room to ensure he was able to eat. Things like this make such a difference when you have a diabetic teen; I am so touched the Jacquie and her team took the trouble to ensure Jack got a snack.

The Boys who are mad sports fans were also greeted with personalised shirts for the Leeds Rhinos and a lovely letter to offer us a training day and lunch with the Rhinos in summer. Thank you so much you have no idea how special this made the boys feel. They are beside themselves with excitement, me? I am a little nervous but sure it will be a fun day and a special memory for us all.

We also had a lovely gift, Monopoly the Leeds edition to help us get our bearings of the town. This was very warmly welcomed but caused some conflict later on in the evening when we played; I felt I should automatically be given the Queens Hotel card in my official capacity as Q Hotel Family Ambassador, but the men in my life pointed out it was a role I would not have if it wasn’t for them. Any way I landed on it, so bought it fair and square.

Queens roomWe had connecting rooms, something we have never done before, but will 100% do again. It’s a small thing but the boys just loved having their own rooms. In fact Joe would only enter and exit the room via his own door, which might I add we were not allowed to use. The bathrooms were very modern, it was great to have 2 with a teen, and our view over Leeds was fantastic.

I know I have already written a whole post about the Art Deco style of the Queens. But I love, love, love the fact that Q have restored it back to its former glory. And every ounce of the hotel oozes 1930s style in a modern way.

Queens 3We decided to dine at the hotel, and ate in the Queens Bar where the atmosphere was great. The staff was so lovely and attentive and the food was very tasty. In fact we spent some time chatting with David the operations manager, he was fantastic with the boys, they thought he was hilarious. Now I know you will say; yes but you got lots of fuss due to being Q Hotel Ambassadors, but I watched David and he spent time chatting to every single guest in that bar whilst we dined.

The next morning Jacquie had arranged for us to have tour around Leeds with a lovely lady called Beverly from The Leeds visitors Centre. This was just incredible, in fact we learnt so much about Leeds and what is available for families that I am going to share this in another post. But what I will say is Beverly was amazing, we all loved the tour and can’t wait to visit Leeds again.

We loved our Queens visit. The boys’ felt thoroughly spoilt, but extra treats aside that were all so so special. The Queens is a wonderful warm friendly hotel. The location is just perfect, next door to the train station, in the heart of Leeds in skipping distance to amazing shops, restaurants and amazing attractions including the Leeds Armories, and amazing museums.

In fact I have one major problem with the Queens Hotel; we didn’t spend long enough there. We had to get back home due to previous plans and terrible snow, we nearly never got home. But we WILL be going back, we loved The Queens Hotel.

Thank you to a wonderful team, I haven’t been able to mention you all, but every part of our experience from our wonderful reception, fantastic service, dinner, breakfast and spotlessly clean rooms made our stay incredibly special, and a wonderful memory. So thank you to a very special team, we left the Queens feeling more like family than guests.

    • I know Kate, you can never quite relax when you have a Diabetic child. Jack is so amazing but you can never quite relax, so touches like this make such a difference. It gave me peace of mind that he had eaten so we could enjoy the whole experience.

  7. How jealous am I right now??? It looks like you had a fantastic time and it looks idyllic. They obviously pay attention to detail that’s for sure. And…. Monopoly, nice touch! Glad you had a wonderful time at such a beautiful place. Also and most importantly, the boys look like they had an equally fab time- quite a task for boys their age. Lovely xxx

  8. Connecting rooms is THE way to go isn’t it? We had one in Frankfurt recently, and it actually felt like a relaxing hotel stay rather than all being on top of one another in one room! 😀

  10. I was due to go back to the Queens this weekend, my second trip. Me and my husband enjoyed our trip last year and my Xmas present was a weekend there again. Once I have recovered we will definitely be going back. The hotel is in a great location for shopping, train station and nights out.

  12. I love it when hotels refurbish and capture the olden days, the 1930’s era was so beautiful too. I am also really amazed a the trouble they went to ensure your son would be able to sort his sugar levels on arrival. Amazing service.

  13. Sounds a great place and fully warrants the cheesy title 🙂 Definitely agree that the concierge service was worth it, the only time we’ve used this before is in Positano in Italy and I’d totally go for it again! I’ve not been to Leeds, but more and more i’ve a feeling I need to get myself to Yorkshire! #timetraveller
